crizay (1054), Brook Park (was Tampa,FL), Ohio, USA Jan 16, 2008 Pours a dark mahogany with big almond head that stays frothy the whole time. Aroma is nutmeg and cinnamon. flavor is the same a good amount of cinnamon with some nutmeg and ginger. Mollases seems to add some sweetness as well as the honey which is pretty evident. Almost seems like some sort of belgian yeast was used also with the spiciness and fruity esters. Thick and rich, lots of body and carbonation this is a damn good Christmas Ale. The nutmeg and cinnamon really stay in the aftertaste as well as some roasted character with a good amount of hops as well. Really just a good beer. BeerBelcher (670), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Jan 1, 2008 I thought this was a pretty good winter beer. I was a bit off-put by the use of the phrase "malt beverage" but was not disappointed by the heavy amount of spiciness represented in this beer.
The body of the beer was dark in color with a pretty abundant head. Aroma was extremely spicy - lots of nutmeg all-spice and other spices you might associate with mulled wine. Flavor was powerful but spicey, and the inclusion of molasses and honey was prevalent but also pleasant. Mouthfeel was rich and full. Not something that I’d want to drink 24 oz of by myself, but still, very pleasant.
I bought this bottle at the Brew & Brew in North Ridgeville, OH.
