COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An English style robust Porter brewed with imported pale, crystal, black and chocolate malts to lend the dark color with ruby highlights and dark malt flavors. This is a beer supposedly created in London in the early 18th Century to slake the thirst of the Market Porters, men who carried all the produce at markets throughout the city. The hops used are English varietals like Challenger for bitterness and a good amount of First Gold to balance all the malt notes.

Tap at Mad Fox. Clear, deep red pour. Weak tan head. Nose is heavier dark cherries and milk chocolate. Some caramel and maple syrup. Big cherry like Ben and Jerry’s Cherry Garcia ice cream. Taste is lighter bodied, bitter, sharper bitter with cherry dark chocolate, raw cocoa. Palate is clean and quick, lighter for style. Very nice. Fruity and cherry heavy. The fiance loved it.

On cask at the brewpub. Reviewed from notes. Pours a very dark brown with a slight light mocha head followed by some good lacing. Nose brings forward a good amount of roasted malt as well as some dark chocolate, coffee, and hints of molasses. Taste really focuses on the roasted malt and adds in nice flavors to surround it with elegant dark chocolate and coffee as well as hints of smoke. Feel is medium with a good body on cask. Drinks quite well; glad that this is normally on. Serving type: cask Reviewed on: 10-16-2010
