Mad Fox Oktoberfest Lagerbier brings a bit of Munich Oktoberfest to Falls Church. We start with German Pilsner, Vienna and Munich malts and German Hersbrucker hops and ferment with a Bavarian lager yeast. This produces a deep burnished gold colored beer with a rich toasty malt aroma and flavor and enough hops to keep the malt in cheek with a beautiful, highly drinkable balance. Prosit!

another great easy drinking German style. Touch of sweetness in this malt but los of flavorful grain. Pours golden with decent head and lacing. Crisp bitter finish. Average carbonation. Tap at brewpub.

Draft sampler at the brewpub. Pours a hazy gold with bare offwhite head. Great balance of grains, spice and malt. I thought this was excellent for the style, and overall very decent.

On tap at Mad Fox last night. Served in a pilsner glass. Pours a very clear light copper color with a thin white head and a bit of lacing on the way down. The nose carries very light caramel along with a bit of bready grain. Light floral and earthy hops in the background, leading to a well-rounded marzen. The flavor is hit a bit too hard by the grain aspect of the beer without anything really rounding it out. Nice and simple, though not thoroughly enjoyable. Light and crisp body with a very mild bitterness. Pretty good, but a bit too thin and in need of a bit more malt and hop character.
