Much like there Koelsch with just a little have too give a pale yellow lemon look. Clean and fresh, but not as good as their clear version for my taste. Lacks some of the light fruit notes of a true Koelsch,

Tap at Meridian Pint. Pours a full haze, straw. Sharp urea, lemon, and lacto nose like a Berliner weisse. Pretty funky. Some people at our table thought it was sweaty socks and body odor. I don’t mind it- pretty typical lacto nose. Taste is grassy and yeasty, some squashy noble hops, refreshing lemon, dough, cracker. Sharp, quenching, delicious. I’m really digging this though at first it is too funky for style.

Mad Fox tap ($5.75): Pours a very slightly hazy golden color with a white head. Although I have had the normal kolsch, I find it difficult to compare the two because of the time that has elapsed between tastings. In any case, this is pretty excellent. Aroma has nice bread and hops aroma. Taste is rather bitter, yet extremely drinkable. This is not watery in the least bit like many other kolschs, nor is it kind of rotten like others (Reissdorf, I am looking at you). All in all, this is an excellent, balanced Kolsch.

Draft at the source. Cloudy pale yellow color, thick white head, solid lacing. Aroma of white pepper and straw. Taste is butterscotch and white pepper. OK.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 jcos (1175) - Maryland, USA - FEB 20, 2012
Location/Date:Draft at Mad Fox, February 19th, 2012.
Appearance:Yellow cloud.
Aroma: Aroma is of citrus, slightly stronger than the standard Kolsch(see preview review), a little wheat..
Taste:Citrusy, light hop, faint malt, yeasty.
Palate:Light mediumbody, quick aftertaste.
Summary: Pretty similar to the Kolsch, I’m unsure which I prefer more, but both are enjoyable.

As gOod a kolsch as I have had very grassy and citrusy. Light body yet full of flavor a very good summe beer. Definitely recommended

2011 GABF Gold Medal winner. On tap at Mad Fox. Served in a pilsner glass.
Pours a very hazy bright straw yellow with a good white head. Nice retention and quite a bit of lacing on the way down. The nose carries some nice pilsner malt and just a touch of hops. At that point, it’s quite similar to the base kolsch. From there, however, there’s a really nice dose of yeast and breadiness, really changing the dynamic of the beer.
The flavor is similar. Bread and yeast come forward with the base in the background. Nice yeastiness through the finish. Moderate hop component. Crisp, but not as much so as the regular kolsch; this is probably halfway between kolsch and hefeweizen in body and feel. Really a nicely done brew. Bill and company deserve the accolades on this one.
