3.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draught taster served at Smoke and Barrel in Washington. Decent pumpkin attempt, a little light on the body. Sort of had a tea-like quality to it

Draft. Poured a hazy orange with a super thin white head. Not a good example of a pumpkin beer. The pie spices totally overwhelmed the other flavors, especially since it was a thin beer. Needed to highlight the pumpkin richness more. Cloyingly sweet.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Poured right from the fermenter on tour at the brewpub. Pours a hazy orange with some frothy white head. Big, spicy nose, nutmeg, ginger, clove, root veg. Flavor has a big zip from the ginger, almost a wasabi like zing to it, after that fades you get the sweetness, carrot, banana bread, some yeast. Medium bodied, zippy finish.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Grabbed a growler from the brewpub yesterday afternoon.
Pours a solid, hazy orange with a thin whisp of off-white head. Laces pretty well as it goes down. Nose is very nice, yet quite subtle. Definite notes of caramelized malt, roasted pumpkin, nutmeg, cinnamon, and a host of other pumpkin-pie spices. I love the balance between the sweet, caramel nature of the malt and the hint of spices. The taste takes this even further in the right direction, as the balance is quite nice and refreshing. This is the rare pumpkin beer that is neither cloying nor suffering from spice overload. Mouthfeel is a bit thinner than I would like, although Iím bumping it back up a bit due to the fact that my tongue is assailed and pierced by excess cinnamon and clove. Drinkability is really great. My wife and I split a growler of this without a problem. I certainly could have gone for more, which is a rare occurrence, as Iím normally quite done with a pumpkin beer after 6-8 ounces.
