Cask @ mad fox - pours black with a tan head. Aroma is faintly smokey with some malty notes. Pretty faint though. Taste is a tad bitter, but again this is pretty mild. Palate is thin and a bit dry. Overall, I’d rather have milder then burnt, but it’s still a bit boring.

Draft at brewpub. Pours black with a half inch of brown head. Not much on the nose. Big roasted chocolate notes on the tongue. Has a bit of chocolately finish. Nice!

Mad Fox cask ($5.75): Pours a black colour with a cascading head that tops off with a creamy head. Aroma is chocolatey and roasted malts. Way more chocolatey than I would have expected. Body is pretty full, by which I mean that this had a way fuller body than most other Dry Stouts. Also, this beer had a good amount of flavour throughout. Slightly sweet (definitely more on the sweet rather than the bitter side of dry stouts).

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Drake (6488) - Ivy, Virginia, USA - AUG 6, 2011
Growler courtesy of MaltDawg at the 14th Richmond Ratebeer Gathering, 3/19/11. Pours a dark brown color with a thin head. Fair head retention and lacing. Big aroma full of roasted malts. Some smoky, chewy, leathery, tobacco notes and a faintly sweet finish. The taste is bitter roasted malts, a milky note, some faint caramel, bitter hops. Medium-full bodied. Quite drinkable. Quite a nice beer.

Draft at Brewpub. Poured a dark, almost black color, with a nice creamy tan head. Aroma was nutty, chocolate notes, caramel. Flavor was roasted coffee, chocolate, roasted malts. Mouthfeel was creamy, enjoyable, smooth and refreshing. Pretty darn enjoyable to be honest
