COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A Stout beer in the style of the great Irish brews made with Pale, Black and Chocolate malts with a heavy use of Roasted Barley to dry out the palate and lend a very roasty finish to this beer. A very malt accented brew that is lightly hopped with the English hop varietal First Gold. This beer is jet black in color and is unfiltered.

Sampled at Churchkey during CBC week. On cask. Pours a watery black with some off white head. Nose of smoke, plastic, a little grilled meat. Flavor of malt, mushrooms, soy, smoke, bread. Light finish. Kind of strange.

Cask @ mad fox - pours black with a tan head. Aroma is faintly smokey with some malty notes. Pretty faint though. Taste is a tad bitter, but again this is pretty mild. Palate is thin and a bit dry. Overall, I’d rather have milder then burnt, but it’s still a bit boring.

Draft at brewpub. Pours black with a half inch of brown head. Not much on the nose. Big roasted chocolate notes on the tongue. Has a bit of chocolately finish. Nice!

Mad Fox cask ($5.75): Pours a black colour with a cascading head that tops off with a creamy head. Aroma is chocolatey and roasted malts. Way more chocolatey than I would have expected. Body is pretty full, by which I mean that this had a way fuller body than most other Dry Stouts. Also, this beer had a good amount of flavour throughout. Slightly sweet (definitely more on the sweet rather than the bitter side of dry stouts).

Tap. Pours deep, dark brown with thon, fizzy off-white head; good retention and spare lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, earthy hops, dark fruit, vanilla, chocolate, and light coffee. Flavor is malt forward with some supporting dark fruit esters and hops; dry, chocolate finish. Medium body, carbonation, and warmth.

Brown/black pour with tan head and lace. Aroma of large chocolate and a hinto chocolate. Coffee flavor, earthy hops, and a hinto chocolate. Medium bodied but a tad fizzy.

Growler courtesy of MaltDawg at the 14th Richmond Ratebeer Gathering, 3/19/11. Pours a dark brown color with a thin head. Fair head retention and lacing. Big aroma full of roasted malts. Some smoky, chewy, leathery, tobacco notes and a faintly sweet finish. The taste is bitter roasted malts, a milky note, some faint caramel, bitter hops. Medium-full bodied. Quite drinkable. Quite a nice beer.

Draft at Brewpub. Poured a dark, almost black color, with a nice creamy tan head. Aroma was nutty, chocolate notes, caramel. Flavor was roasted coffee, chocolate, roasted malts. Mouthfeel was creamy, enjoyable, smooth and refreshing. Pretty darn enjoyable to be honest
