COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A Stout beer in the style of the great Irish brews made with Pale, Black and Chocolate malts with a heavy use of Roasted Barley to dry out the palate and lend a very roasty finish to this beer. A very malt accented brew that is lightly hopped with the English hop varietal First Gold. This beer is jet black in color and is unfiltered.

Cask. Beige head atop brown-black body. Aroma is medium sweet, roast, some chocolate, caramel, coffee, earthy. Taste is moderately sweet, mocha, caramel, roast, light burnt. Medium body, some stickiness, light acidity. Much more body than expected for a 4.2% beer.

Growler shared by maltdawg at the 14th Richmond Gathering. Pours black with a large, frothy beige head, long retention with good lacing. Aroma and flavor are heavy malt (roast, chocolate), woody hops, fruity, smoke, leather, peat, and prunes. Light body, low warmth, medium carbonation and a dry finish.

Growler courtesy of MaltDawg at the 14th Richmond Ratebeer Gathering, 3/19/11. Pours a dark brown color with a thin head. Fair head retention and lacing. Big aroma full of roasted malts. Some smoky, chewy, leathery, tobacco notes and a faintly sweet finish. The taste is bitter roasted malts, a milky note, some faint caramel, bitter hops. Medium-full bodied. Quite drinkable. Quite a nice beer.

Mad Fox cask ($5.75): Pours a black colour with a cascading head that tops off with a creamy head. Aroma is chocolatey and roasted malts. Way more chocolatey than I would have expected. Body is pretty full, by which I mean that this had a way fuller body than most other Dry Stouts. Also, this beer had a good amount of flavour throughout. Slightly sweet (definitely more on the sweet rather than the bitter side of dry stouts).
