A Stout beer in the style of the great Irish brews made with Pale, Black and Chocolate malts with a heavy use of Roasted Barley to dry out the palate and lend a very roasty finish to this beer. A very malt accented brew that is lightly hopped with the English hop varietal First Gold. This beer is jet black in color and is unfiltered.

Growler courtesy of MaltDawg at the 14th Richmond Ratebeer Gathering, 3/19/11. Pours a dark brown color with a thin head. Fair head retention and lacing. Big aroma full of roasted malts. Some smoky, chewy, leathery, tobacco notes and a faintly sweet finish. The taste is bitter roasted malts, a milky note, some faint caramel, bitter hops. Medium-full bodied. Quite drinkable. (Sample Date: 3/19/2011 Source:Other) Growler from the brewery. Nutty chocolate with hints of roast and caramelized sugars in the aroma. Clear very dark amber brown with fine off white head. Roasty with coffee and burnt sugar notes and chocolate. Black patent malt? Very dry with a bit of a roasty astringency which lingers. Light body and mouthfeel.

Draft at Mellow Mushroom Carytown. Poured black, brown at edges, slight head. Aroma of black malts, coffee accented in nature. Flavor was very similar - definite emphasis on what I can only describe as a "clean" roasted barley malt profile. Drinkable as the style should be. The hops blended very nicely with the malts, lending a presence without being at all a star. Nicely done.

Draft at brewpub. Pours black with a half inch of brown head. Not much on the nose. Big roasted chocolate notes on the tongue. Has a bit of chocolately finish. Nice!
