Cask. Pretty much black, large bubble tan edge head. Aroma of dark milk chocolate and pumpernickel bread. Taste is similar with a bit of coffee. Nice.

Tap at the brewpub. Dark brown pour with a clingy off white head. Roasty and soy elements, not as smooth as I’d like but not bad.

Opaque black-brown with tan head and excellent lacing.
Aroma of caramel, coffee and roasted malt.
Taste of roasted malt, chocolate, toffee and espresso. Sweet and smooth tasting.
Medium/light body and medium/low carbonation.

Cask at CK thx to Alex. Weak head atop dark ruby. Looks black. Nose is volatile detergent. Soy, cherries, black tea. Smoked meat even. Taste is watery, papery. Palate is very thin. Light smoked character. Odd.

On cask at mad fox in falls church. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Toasted malt aroma. Nice balance. Slight bitter finish.

Draft. Pours deep, dark brown with creamy beige head; good retention and lacing. Aroma is chocolate, roasted malt, dark fruit and light toffee. Flavor is roasted malt, earthy hops, dark chocolate, and dark fruit esters. Medium body, warmth, and carbonation.

Draft. Pours near black with a beige head. Light roasted malty aroma with some light sweet malty notes. The flavor has dry roasted malts, with some nutty and caramel sweetness. Nice.

Growler for Thanksgiving. A pretty standard but well made adn true to style drink. Great creamy oat malt body and nice roastiness. Slight bitter finish and good sweetness.

On cask at the brewpub Halloween Day 2010.
Pours a very dark brown bordering on black with a thin tan head and some nice lacing. Nose is roasted malt, slight coffee, and a bit if vanilla. Taste is very slight vanilla and roast with a tiny amount if chocolate. Feel is fairly light with low carbonation. Nice and easy drinking.

Served on draft at the brewpub. Pours a very dark reddish brown color with a medium frothy light tan head. Good head retention and lacing. Nutty and roasty aroma with some chocolate notes. The taste is roasted malts, chocolate, oats, nuts, sweet caramel notes and mildly bitter hops. Medium bodied with a lingering bitterness. Nice beer.
