Mad & Noisy is a new small batch series from Creemore Springs Brewery, named after the two rivers that merge and flow through the village of Creemore. The first release is Hops & Bolts India Pale Lager, a Czech twist on an English IPA. Hops & Bolts IPL is a bit lighter than an IPA, but a bit fuller than your golden lager, featuring a pithy bitterness that blends to a silky balancing malt sweetness. In the glass, you’ll see a slight unfiltered haze which settles to a bright orange-cedar colour and a dense, lingering off-white head. The big hoppy aroma features a blend of light tropical fruits and bold piney and grassy notes.

Drank on tap at the 20th Mondial de la Bière, May 30, 2013. Honey amber, medium head. Aroma hops a little sweet, a little fruity cereal. Taste of green and dry hops, not very tasty, not bad bitterness. This is a typical beer commercial or false micro beer!

Poured slightly hazy, copper colour with a creamy beige head. Grassy hop aroma. Medium body with a tart mouthfeel, sticky dry finish. Flavour of caramel malts, kind of astringent bitterness.

625 ml bottle. Pours a very cloudy orange amber with a resilient white-orangeish head. Aroma is caramel, herbs, grapefruit. Flavor is grapefruit, oranges, very fruity, nice caramel shot. Finish is grapefruit, not so bitter, but very fruity! Medium body, somewhat sticky mouthfeel and average carbonation.

Although lacking in aroma as there is some grass, but not much more. The beer is nicely bitter and medium bodied.

Pours an opaque orangey brown. Thin white head. Aromas are very weak grassiness. Not much going on here. Tastes are citrus and grass. This is all fairly mild. Overall, the Creemore safe approach to the IPA style permeates this one. Disappointing and did not meet my expectations.

On tap at the Smiling Buddha, Dovercourt & College, Toronto. Poured amber with thin white head. Hoppy aroma. Medium bodied. Pronounced hoppy bitterness that lingers. Not unpleasant, but far from my preferred evening glass.

Nice. More of an IPP, as In pilsner. I say this because most IPLs have an underlying smoothness, but this has more of a springiness to it. Other than that, I like this one. (And yes, I do know an pilsner is a lager.)

On tap at La Belle et la Boeuf burger bar in Laval. Appearance is murky, almost muddy looking. No head whatsoever, not looking very appetizing. Aroma is hoppy and promising. Taste is decently bitter up front and goes into a sort of "soapy" direction. I don’t even know how to describe it. I had difficulty finishing the pint. To its defense, it was served way too warm.
