Tap at Capitol Beer Fest. Pours dark brown with a thick tan head and a faint chocolate aroma. There is a hearty dark molasses flavor with a lot of chocolate and a fairly bitter finish There is a faint bourbon trail.

Very dark brown with a small brown head. Malty and vanilla tones. Malt, vanilla, chockolate and hops. Medium to full body with a nice balanced finish.

Pour on tap at Rackhouse, dark black pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of big caramel, toffee, hints of dark chocolate in there with a hint of coffee, roast, slight bourbon and oaky tones. Taste is a mix of bourbon, oak, slight earth into roast, coffee, sweet caramel, brown sugar, finishing sweet, slightly bitter.

On tap at this mud hole in East Bay called "Beer Revolution." Geez, the patrons here are straight out of a Mad Max movie. Pours a beautiful opaque black with a rich, dark root beer colored head. Head retention is less than average. The marbled swirls of root beer brown that sits atop the black liquid looks so rich and inviting. Coffee, caramel, and brown sugar comprise the aromas. Mouthfeel is a little thick, but not viscous. The hop/carbonation interaction creates a bit of a burn at the finish. Bourbon, chocolate, and coffee in spades. No booziness. Though I wouldn’t expect a lot at 8.8% any way. Decent barrel aged stout. Could’ve been hopped a little more lightly and carbonated less for a more sippable beer.

Draft at the Bistro West Coast Barrel Aged Beer Festival. Pours very dark brown/black with a tan smear. Aroma is chocolate bourbon. Full bodied. Flavor is chocolate/vanilla/bourbon/oak. Very pleasant and tasty.

Dark brown in color with a khaki head. Mild bourbon on the nose with a lot of oxidation, some oak, and a bit of dark fruit. Moderate roastiness with a touch of coffee grounds. Flavor is a bit better. Still oxidized, but a bit more bourbon and wood flavor along with roasted malt, bitter dark chocolate, coffee, and dark fruit notes. A bit thin with surprisingly high carbonation.

Very dark with some medium dark foam and coffee colored foam. Nose is pretty boozy chocolate. Usual suspects of chocolate and dark roast coffee nose. Same in taste, full bodied and generous palate. Chocolate presents itself as more sweet with some milk notes. Bourbon is definitely there. Pushes all the envelopes without overstepping the bounds...in other words it’s big, but pretty well balanced. Very enjoyable.
