COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Commercial Description: Part of our limited release high gravity series celebrating our twentieth anniversary (1989 to 2009) Double Dread Imperial Red (An American Strong Ale) is a high gravity red ale brewed with Two-Row Pale Malt, complimented by Aromatic and Wheat malts and a blend of CaraMunich, Carastan and Crystal malts for color, complexity and flavor. Fermented with our signature ale yeast, this hop bomb of a red ale is bittered with Colombus and Cascade hops, flavor and aromatics are enhanced by Cascade, Chinook and Amarillo, then generously dry-hopped with a tri-fecta of Cascade, Amarillo and Chinook for zesty citrus aromatics and a resinous flavor explosion. For those who chose to indulge their courtly passions be forwarned that this royal ruby refreshment ferments out at 8.6% a.b.v and nears triple digit IBUís

12 oz bottle. Hazy dark ruby-amber; large, fairly creamy, durable tan head that leaves ample sticky lacing. Aroma: Complex and fruity. More malts than expected to go with the hops. Moderate-high bitterness. Flavor: A strong but very good sipper. Lingering bitter/sweet aftertaste with some roasted grains. Complex. Floral/fruity/herbal hops. O: another fine Calif. DIPA.

Bottle. Pours a dark amber with a strong malty aroma. Flavor is mostly roasted malt, with a little bread and chocolate. Bitter hop finish. Very smooth and refreshing for a strong ale. Very much enjoyed this.

glennmastrange (2247) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - APR 28, 2014
Bottle. Heavy cookie, cereal and roasted for the malt, moderate pine and cooked orange for the hops, light dough for the yeast, with date, dried cherry, brown sugar, cinnamon and whiskey. Head is small, frothy, off-white with good lacing and is mostly diminshing. Color is muddy medium red/brown. Flavor starts lightly sweet and lightly to moderately acidic, then finishes lightly sweet, acidic and bitter. Palate is on the fuller side of medium, oily with a lively carbonation and a lightly alcoholic finish. A pretty solid American Strong Ale overall.

AWISLguy (1245) - Wisconsin, USA - APR 23, 2014
Bottle from Total Wine in Jensen Beach/Stuart. Pours an amber brown with a beige head, some floaties. Aroma has sweet caramel, grapefruit, stone fruits and some chocolate. Taste is malty sweet, with caramel and some brown sugar, but also quite bitter from grapefruit and lemon zest. Some pine and a lot of sticky resin. Some alcohol. Medium bodied. Finishes bitter, from what must have been copious dry hopping as it has that tangy super-bitter late finish. Very extreme, but without a good blend.

Pours a thin head on a cloudy dark straw colored body. The aroma is a deep malt smell. Wonderful. The taste has a bold lemon bitterness trying to break out of the big malt bill. Great balance. The texture is heavier with moderate carbonation. An awesome bold red ale.

12oz bottle pours a hazy reddy brown color with a lot of flocculates. Huge malt flavor and some mild hoppy bitterness.

UPDATED: MAY 13, 2014 Bottle at home served in a half-pint glass. A clear ruby amber Brown pour with a thin head. The nose is floral hops & big malt notes. Medium to thin bodied. A very malty, bitter & strong ale... Tons of generic citrus & biscuity malts. Served in a champagne flute I get earthy, boozy, whiskey-ish & tobacco notes. Surprisingly different.

Bottle. Pours a fairly hazy reddish brown color with a thick light tan head on it. Nose is obviously hoppy, but it smells old, like the hops are old, like the beer has sat on the shelf too long. Taste is pretty dry, actually, and awfully malty with a lot toastiness in there. Meh.

Bottled: unk Pours dark brown with red hues in the murky ale. Some surface tan foam. Nose has some spicy hops and plenty of malt character which is a tad sharp. Some hints of spiced pear and brown sugars. Sweet flavor with obvious alcohol and little hop presence IMO. There a bit of an acetone character - not impressed with the flavor here. Medium bodied with moderate carb and a wet, chemical finish. Iím not going to purchasing another one of these. Serving type: bottle 04-10-2012

Aroma is pine, mild/medium sweetness and a slight mustiness. The flavor is grapefruit, strong tropical fruit notes, spices/almost vegetable-like and hop resin-bitter and tangy in the finish.
