3.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 oz. bottle from Total Wine. Not much more than a heavy barleywine-like sweetness in the aroma. Beautiful crystal clear golden yellow wit a soapy white head. The prickly alcohol heat seems to jump out right from the get go and seems much higher than 8%. A nice honeyed sweetness tries to subdue that heat with some success. Then a truly bitter green dankness sets in and overtakes them both with subtle, spicy herbaceousness and citrus pith and rind. That bitterness really sticks around along with a little residual sweetness for a nice, long boozy afterglow. The body is surprisingly light for all that’s packed in here (maybe due to the wheat?) and makes what could be a heavy, bloat-inducing beer quite easy to drink.

12oz. Was stoked to see something new (to me at least) from Mad River - and a Wheat IPA at that! Honestly their own description fits it on the nose, so I won’t say much, but this one is definitely more on the fruit wheat tip than the bitter IPA. Flavors blend well but aren’t that loud. Pretty good.

On draft at the Mad River Brewpub in Blue Lake, CA. Pours a cloudy amber with an of white head. Nose ow wheat, citrus and maybe pine. Medium body. The flavor is tropical fruit and citrus. The pine shows in the bitter dry finish. Very nice.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. Medium to heavy malt aroma of cookie, moderate orange for the hops, light dough and broth for the yeast, with date, brown sugar, alcohol and dried apricot. Head is small, slightly off-white with some slippery lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is murky medium amber/orange with a lot of tiny particles. Flavor starts lightly to moderately sweet, and finishes lightly sweet and acidic and moderately bitter. Palate is on the fuller side of medium, oily, with a lively carbonation and a moderately alcoholic finish. Nah, tasted too much like those crappy Canadian excuses for IPAs.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Hazy orange with a one-finger white head, nice lace and lots of chunks of something. Aromas of floral and citrus hops, overwhelmed by the wheat malts. Flavor is dominated by the malt swweetness, with hints of spice and a gentle hop bitterness. Medium body, lively carbonation, prickly mouthfeel and a sweetnish finish.

Twelve ounce bottle - poured orangey and slightly cloudy with what appears to be yeast particulates. Nice hop profile, however not outstanding in any way. Drinkable for sure but not repeatable.

On tap at capitol beer and taproom. Pours haze copper. There is a slight fruit hop with not much else going on. Kinda watered down in my opinion

Easy drinking imperial wheat IPA. Not as hoppy as a traditional IPA but still enjoyable for those that don’t like over the top IPA’s.

Hazy burnt orange with floaties and frothy head. Very sweet malts, especially for a "wheat". Hops are tropical, mango and citrus. ABV well masked.
