Aroma is of sweet caramel malts with a touch of hops. Flavor is almost the same. Lots of sweet malt with an citrus aftertaste from the hops. This wants to be an American strong ale really bad but i does not quite make it. Still this is an ok ale to drink on a rainy night. robbmotiwalla (50), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA

I hadn’t had this one in many years, and it holds up nicely as a well hopped American red ale. It’s got a substantial malt presence, and a sweet quality that befits the style. But I definitely enjoy the bite, which has a lot of pepper and a bit of grassy freshness to it. heemer77 (4312), Savannah, Missouri, USA

There is also a little bit of oranges. The taste is light milk chocolate with some cereal and sweet pancakes. Nice, surprisingly bitter finish. checkmatei1 (630), Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, USA

The aroma is moderately sweet, caramel, fruity, and a hint of pine. The flavor is much of the same; sweet, caramel, fruits. All in all a pretty standard amber. Drinkable, but not anything to get excited about. BrewDad (2412), Olympia, Washington, USA

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 29, 2008 Bottle. Small vanila head that mostly diminished, floaties, hazy, splotchy amount of lacing, and an amber hue. Nose was malty, caramel, hoppy, and bitter. Ditto for the flavor. Fairly smooth mouthfeel and light-medium body. Not a great beer by any means, just nothing truly stood out with it.
