3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
A barleywine with the aroma carrying that West Coast hoppiness, yet there was deep maltiness as it warmed, as well. Bits of popcorn here as well? Not as syrupy as some barleywines, this seemed like a boring suped-up IPA. Not bad for what it is, though.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
2001 Vintage - Fizzy light brown head. Hazy orange color. Very sweet and alcoholic aromas. Very mellow flavors, probably because of its age. Hops are most subtle, nioce sweet caramel malt flavors that are enjoyable complex. Medium bodied (light for the style). Also a very quick finish. Quite pleasant overall.

Amber colored, somewhat cloudy, pours with a tan colored head. Aroma of alcohol, carmel malt and bittering hops(probably British). Flavor is figs and twigs. Finish is dry. I'm going to struggle to finish this one.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
2001 bottling. Intense aroma, plenty of fruitiness, some apple, citrus and cherry, baking spices, faint tea leaves, wafting alcohol and lightly spicy hops. Red-orange color, finely hazed, initially fine head that all but dissipated completely. Great balance of caramel, bready, fruity malt sweetness, spicy, lightly piney and herbal hop flavors, bitterness and warming alcohol. Low effervescence on the palate and syrupy, oily mouthfeel. This is just a very nice beer, and the two years' aging certainly could not have hurt.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
2002 harvest. Cloudy reddish amber with a big white frothy, clingy head. Faint fruitiness among the alcohol and cardboardy malts. Appealing, but not special. Pretty malty and earthy in flavor. Nice and sweet. Big thick mouthfeel. Great warming finish in chest. Sweet chocolate and caramel too.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: OCT 3, 2006 Rating #1 (2/27/03) Bottle from the 2002 harvest of the organic malts (6 3 6 3 14). Dark amber color with a tan head. The nose has strong alcohol brandy like notes. A little medicinal and not well balanced.
Rating #2 (10/2/06) Bottle from the 2003 harvest (6 3 7 3 16). A deep dark brown color with a thin tan head. The nose is rIch and full of malts, caramel, and earthiness that carry over well in the flavor. Much improved and likely a result of longer aging. It lacks in fruitiness, but it has a spiced carmal flavor that is nice.
