í07 bottled. Thick, well-balanced, sweet & syrupy barley wine. Hey it may lack complexity but unlike many b.w.ís its very good fresh & right off the shelf. Nice alcohol finish, oh & btw the í07 is 10.8% abv, very nice!!!

Had on tap at Monkey Paw in San Diego. Pours a reddish brown. Aroma is sweet malt. Caramel also. Sweet and really malty. Toffee. Alcohol is present. Finishes clean. Really nice beer.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours the thinnest head on a dark brown body.
The aroma is grain, both dry and wet, honey and slight barnyard. Nice.
The taste is malty but not too sweet. A mild lemon and grapefruit bitterness in the middle. Finishes with a sticky sweet note and a little alcohol heat.
The texture is thicker and sticky.
Itís got a nice alcohol heat but the rest of the flavor is muddled.

Quite nice and aromatic. Spiced and thick in shape. A hint of bread and malty sweetness in it all.

Pours opaque brown with a frail head that arises only after a vigorous pour; rum fruitcake on the nose; sweet viscous palate and oily bitter finish. Good barley wine.

a few years ago i had my friends do a blind tasting of a year old, and a new release old stock. they all picked the year old. that yearís john barleycorn, fresh, was mature like the year old old stock, but my friends, once they knew what it was, wou;dnít give it the nod. old stock has gotten even better, with JB (maybe) at best standing pat, but i still think itís good, and itís nice to not have to drop $6-10 on a single 22 oz bottle."

Bottle, 2012 vintage. Sweet caramel malt aroma with notes of dark fruit and toffee. Pours dark caramel colored with a thin light brown head and good lacing. Sugary sweet barley with notes of caramel to start. Very rich, thick mouthfeel. Very smooth finish with notes of caramel, toffee, and dark fruit. Rich, flavorful barleywine.

Bottle from RussianDragon. Thanks Dave!
The beer is slightly murky with a chestnut brown body and a half inch of tan head. Aromas include toffee, dates, booze, malt, perhaps prunes or raisins. Thick body with a mild but present sweetness. Big flavor with malt complexity, a touch of brown sugar. A nice beer to sip and savor.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Thick, sugary, woodsy, and a nice bit of alcohol. This beer stands up as a typical yet somewhat young English barleywine.
