4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12oz bottle that I picked up for $2.50, should have bought a whole four pack. I was a little hesitant given the high ABV but I love barleywine so why not tick a new one? Ruby red color, decent head at first but then it was only a memory. Initial aroma of fruit, malts, barleywine. First taste was cherry cough syrup but once I let it warm up it really came alive. Good flavors of fruit, brown sugar, barleywine, not really even a hint of hops which is fine. This is pretty good stuff, I might have to buy a four pack to age a year just to see how it does.

Bottle, '10 vintage. The pour is a deep cooper/amber. The aroma is light toffee and dark fruits. The taste is bold. The age seems to have done it well. Lots of toffee and dark fruits hold through the taste. Would like to taste this aged in bourbon.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
A great barleywine. Pours a muddy red/black with a tan head. Smells awesome, caramel, cinnamon, vanilla and malt, cherry pie. Taste is creamy, with lots of vanilla, caramel and a nice warm booziness in the finish. Paired with Thai fish cakes, the beer is smoothed out with some nuttiness and booziness. Had in the bottle.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
barley wine bottle share on 1/31. Malty, sweet aroma... fruity and floral. Malty, alcoholic and sweet up front. Nicely balanced, yet moderately bitter on the tail end with plenty of alcohol. Full-bodied with an oily mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Long, astringent, bitter-sweet, slightly dry finish.

355 ML bottle
Dark brown with ruby highlights. Light tan head that falls to a thick collar. Lingers through drinking. Spotty lacing and good ABV legs.
Nose is Caramel, slightly burnt, toffee, date toasted bread, orange, orange zest, and subtle port/ sherry notes.
Taste is pretty similar. Toasted bread, toffee/ burnt sugar, date, soft sherry and a lot of orange, orange peel and grapefruit bitterness. More like an English take with slightly more aggressive hops.
Oily, bitter and bread like finish. Not sure if it is the date that finishes more or the sherry like. Probably a little of both. Really drinkable and really nice. Probably on the underrated side of things as not as over the top hopped as other BW’s are

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured from a 12. Has thick, syrupy appearance. Aroma is hoppy. Flavor is not sweet and somewhat bitter. I kept looking at this beer thinking brown sugar...but the flavor is malty, slightly sweet with a long bitter finish.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: MAR 2, 2015 2013 bottle. Very dark brown with a fat coat of beige head that disappears after a while. A: Spiced rummy fruitcake aroma with orange peel. Oily, lowish carbonation. Rich toffee and dried fruit, fruitcake spices, citrus peel. Some Oloroso notes, but nothing really cardboardish. Bitterness stands out a bit much at the end. Not bad. Suspect there will be a brief window in the next year when it will be pretty good. [3.4]
Another try and it’s pretty charming. Robust and tasty rather than deep and refined. Dark fruits and toffee, enough bitterness to keep it from being oversweet. I like that it’s a beer and not a cocktail.

Pours the thinnest head on a dark brown body.
The aroma is grain, both dry and wet, honey and slight barnyard. Nice.
The taste is malty but not too sweet. A mild lemon and grapefruit bitterness in the middle. Finishes with a sticky sweet note and a little alcohol heat.
The texture is thicker and sticky.
It’s got a nice alcohol heat but the rest of the flavor is muddled.

Quite nice and aromatic. Spiced and thick in shape. A hint of bread and malty sweetness in it all.
