Commercial Description:
Newest in our line, the Double IPA is the big brother to our Jamaica Sunset IPA. Maltier, hoppier and more assertive, this one is for big beer lovers. Double IPA is one of the hottest new beer styles in the micro and regional beer market.

Bottle. Pours a deeper gold colour with a minimal head. Big, bold hop nose swirling with stone fruits. Flavor is a lovely balance of malts and hops, both promininent, but neither being crowned champion although the hop may barely take the fight if you were compelled to pick a winner. Mouthfeel is viscous, which I like in a 2IPA. Could use more fruit, but the balance is there and is not just another opportunity to build an incredible, over-the-top hop missle

Pours a very cloudy amber with little head that is all but nothing 2 minutes after the pour(no lacing). This one is lacking smell, which is wierd for a double. The flavor is sweet with malt and not enough hop character. It finishes with a not so good floor cleanerish sort of taste that lingers for awhile. Overall, I will not be trying this one again which is suprising because the regular IPA is wonderful.

Bottle from Total Wine in Roseville, CA. Somewhat malty for an IPA and lacked the typical hops. It hit you with all the flavor up front and then just fell off. A very average brew.

12oz bottle. Pours a very murky amber with 3 finger off-white head and delicate lacing. Nose is caramel, ripe citrus and a hint of alcohol. Taste is a heavy malt background with oranges, pink grapefruit and some pinesol in the finish. Overall pretty mellow on the hops front for a DIPA. Alcohol is well hidden but it’s a warmer for sure. Nice beer.

This brew had very little head, although it was weaker than the typical double. A little darker than normal, but it carried floral hops scents. Also, sweeter than most. I wasn’t impressed by the palate at all, very rough.

Hazy copper without much head. A rather malty entry for a double ipa, and not an overwhelming hop presencce, yet still had a resonating piney bitterness which illicits more of a physical response to the hops rather than a sensorial one. Decent double ipa.
