Commercial Description:
A black opaque ale with rich creamy roasted malt character and a very mild hop complement. This beer may look a little scary but take a sip and you'll see why this Extra Stout can convert even lite beer drinkers to Stout lovers. A unique flavor profile that starts with a slight coffee flavor and finishes with a hint of roasty chocolate. Try a pint with a scoop of French Vanilla ice cream. This beer is a favorite as a compliment to any dessert or as a hearty breakfast drink.

This is an excellent stout, It pours well and has that coffee aroma. it has the substance that good stout needs and does not have any of the acid that some are afflicted with. I recomend

very dark, with a nice cherry chocolate looking head, although it is small. looks very tasty. the head sadly dissolved quickly. very strong coffee/ rich chocolate aroma. smells delightful. creamy at the start, smooth going down. coffee/chocolate taste, with an after taste of roasted coffee....and chocolate, the more i drink. might have one for breakfast tomorrow...hahaha.

Rich? Yes. Creamy? Yep. Black? Yup. Scary? Yeh. BUT! It really does hide the alcohol well. Smooth drinking with this one. I only really get the alcohol in the after taste.

This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a small sized head of foamy finely sized brown colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a opaque no visible carbonation dark brown colored body and a fair lacing. The mild aroma was roasted malt and dark malt. The smooth mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start and at the finish with a mellow hoppy aftertaste. The mild flavor contained notes of roasted malt. A decent one that I would consider buying again.

Bottle. Pours black as night with a thin, quickly dissolving tan head. Some lacing, but it’s gone in a heartbeat. Smells of muted caramel and chocolate, milk, eggs, and oranges. Flavor is rich chocolate, roasted coffee, watermelon, raisins, strawberries, nuts. Squishy and nougaty in the mouth, with a watery finish. So far the three Mad River beers I’ve had have been very drinkable.

Bottle. Pours dark black with nice tan head. The aroma is rich, sweet chocolate with a bit of a coffee note, toffee, and some granola bars. The flavor is chocolatey at first, then gets a roasty bitterness. There’s a hint of cherry there for a second, then a prickly acidity takes over. The finish is clean and slightly sweet. Not bad at all.

No need for the extra moniker, but good. Pours a pitch black color with a small brownish head. The aroma is sweet coffee, chocolates, and roasted malts. The flavor is coffee, chocolate, and malts. A great standard stout that I could return to frequently.
