Commercial Description:
A black opaque ale with rich creamy roasted malt character and a very mild hop complement. This beer may look a little scary but take a sip and you'll see why this Extra Stout can convert even lite beer drinkers to Stout lovers. A unique flavor profile that starts with a slight coffee flavor and finishes with a hint of roasty chocolate. Try a pint with a scoop of French Vanilla ice cream. This beer is a favorite as a compliment to any dessert or as a hearty breakfast drink.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of Degarth. Pours completely opaque, black with a small, light brown head. Vinous, fruity nose with burned malt accents. Medium body with accents of burned malts, a little fruit and vanilla. Vague ashy touches. Dry, malt bitter finish. 120108

12 fl oz bottle. Pours dark brown with a fully diminished head. Dark roasted malt and with a solid chocolate malt aroma note. Flavour is roasted malt, slight coffee and chocolate malt note in addition. Nice roasted finish of malt and chocolate lasting into the far finish.

Haven’t had this one for a couple of years- used to get it from the Safeway in Arcata, CA (and for $5.99 for 6 at that.) This was the beer that made me a stout lover. A great, small-brew California stout- dark, murky and mysterious but rich and inviting.

12 oz bottle. Dark brown with a tan coating. Nose of chocolate, prune juice and coffee. Body a tad below medium, tangy carb. Smooth, but flavor a bit thin. Mocha and lemon-lime, black coffee with light drying.

black with a thin bubbly head...roasted malt and coffee aroma...hop start with nutty malts blends nicely....crisp finish with a lingering coffee aftertaste .... real nice hops and malt balance .... not as heavy as some stouts...very enjoyable

Bottled (Thanks heemer77). Black/very dark brown colour iwth small brown head. Aroma is coffee, roasted malts, some flowery hops and a bit chocolate. Flavour is old acidic coffee, some hops and slightly roasted malts. Quite pleasant, but the coffeeish acidicness makes it a bit out of balance.

Opaque dark brown color, small brown head. Chocolate, rye bread, glue and hops in the nose. Glueish, very coffeish with some barley wine -like flavors, dark rye bread and roasted malts. Very American style stout. Cold coffee in the aftertaste.

Bottle from Total Wine in Naples, FL. Pours a deep brown/black with a quickly dissipating brown head. Aroma of chocolate, nuts, and balsamic reduction. Medium bodied with thin creamy texture, and slight soda like carbonation. Initial flavor of toasted nuts, maple, dark roast, and raisens. Subtle bitterness mid-palate to balance things out. Roasty finish. Not bad.
