Pours a pitch black. Small tan head. Aromas of roasted malt, coffee, leather, cocoa and a slight bit of anise. Initial taste is smooth, roasted then flavors of coffee, chocolate and roasty burntness kick in. Has a delicious kind of smokiness to it as well. Slightly bitter with an oily and semi sticky mouthfeel. Overall a pretty solid beer.

Poured motor oil black from a bottle. Had a nice 2-3 finger tan head that didn?t last long. The aroma was great. I smelled of rich mocha chocolate coffee. The taste was similar to the smell except for a nice subtle hop balance and a touch of bitter dryness. The mouthfeel was a tad sticky and had low carbonation. Dark sweet and roasty. Would definitely buy again.

12oz bottle pours out black now I didn’t get much of a head but what showed was a mocha brown that quickly disappeared. The aroma of dark roasted malts with some bitter chocolate and a slight scent of coffee. The flavor is pretty good creamy smooth with little carbonation the flavors of roasted malts and chocolate are prevelant. Still get that mildness of the coffee and almost hints of anise. Very drinkable.

Poured into my Duvel Tulip. Dark, think, luxurious with about two fingers of light tan head.
Smells of burnt malt, mostly coffee, roasts. Very rich.
Taste isn’t too bitter. It has a fuller body, and wow does the coffee hit you on the swallow. Not a complete stout, but that’s not really what I was expecting when I picked it up.
Palate is silky smooth. Leaves a bit of a bitter after taste.
Overall, for something I just randomly found at my corner market, this was a treat. It’s a great beer to have around. Not as complex as some other stouts, but certainly a step above the common ones.

Holy cow this is good! This is a very dark appearing ale. It almost looks black! It has a wonderful malty aroma with a touch of hops. The flavor was the most distinctive thing about it. It starts with an almost coffee flavor then moves on to a chocolate aftertaste. It has a good mouthfeel and I can almost picture this with a scoop of vanilla ice cream like a root beer float.

12 oz. bottle from Total Wine in Chesapeake, VA. Pours nearly black with a creamy brown head. Aroma of smoky roasted malts, dark chocolate, and faint roasted coffee. The flavor does not dissapoint; roasted malt and bitter chocolate are at the front with dark roasted espresso and light floral hops on the finish. Medium bodied. A really nicely done stout.

Dark brown pour, dark tan head that lingered around the rim. As it was pouring it looked relatively clear, but dark. Good aroma of burn malt with hints of cherry and brown sugar. Taste has the darkness of burnt malt with some brightness that reminds me of a scotch ale. The brightness doesn’t linger as long as the dark, which lasts for a good time. Very nice.

A very nice dark color. Roasty toasty with with hints of coffee and chocolate. Not too creamy, but a full body and good finish.
