MrBunn (801), Western, Pennsylvania, USA May 6, 2008 Bottle. Pour is like cola... fizzy and dark. Head sits around three or four fingers at first and hisses at me while I type. Aromas are thick of roasty malt, dark chocolate and charcoal/peat. First sip reveals a fairly nice blend of coffee and chocolate malts with a bit of a smokey aftertaste... all the while, it is a bit thin on the palate, especially at first. It could be that there is not the push from a higher ABV to warm things along or the malt presence is a little thin, but it seems just a tick away from perfection. Very nice, in spite of it all.
elihapa (200), Hawaii, USA Jul 17, 2008 Pours syrupy thick dark chocolate with a brown head. Aroma is rich of semisweet chocolate, bourbon, coffee, and molasses. Quite enticing! Palate is creamy smooth, softly carbonated, and mouth-coating. Reminded me of Brooklyn’s Black Chocolate Impy Stout. Flavor of brown sugar, coffee, chalky ash, and malt. Starts fairly sweet, ends with some slowly revealed bitter flavors. A down side: for me the prickly carbonation disrupted the pristine creaminess of the beer. Overall, I really enjoyed this one, and found its attributes to be fairly unique. timsilvia32 (116), born in Michigan, North Carolina, USA Jul 14, 2008 Pours black/brown., tan head. Grains/oats in the nose. Pretty smooth going down, mocha, coffee, chocolate. Pretty clean finish. Could have more hops, maybe more like a milk stout. Not bad at all. pint_size (1001), Austin, Texas, USA Jul 12, 2008 6-25-08 bottle shared with lb4lb thanks to Ibrew2or3
Dark black pour with a watery tan head. Smell is super sweet pecans - almost sugary sweet. Flavor is mostly off fruits that aren’t too enjoyable. Overall, not great. dwyerpg (1990), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Jul 3, 2008 Nice black color, tan head. Flavor is good. A bit creamy, with some sweetness to it. Rich but flavorful. Impressed. nearbeer (1101), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Jun 30, 2008 12 oz. Black with a two finger, creamy and lasting head. Aromas of coffee, caramel, cocoa, raisins, and spicy dried wood. Flavor is coffee, dates, cocoa, spicy hickory, piquant herbs and slight sour cream. Lots of coffee, cocoa and oak on the dry finish. Medium body is lightly tingly, a tad watery, soft and dry.
