Nov 21, 2004 nice black pour, and a great palate...a roasted chocolate aroma...flavor was a bit of a let down (a decent smoky chocolate flavor, with a not so decent bitter aftertaste)...not a bad beer by any means, but somewhat dissapointing

Jul 1, 2004 Very dark pour with small caramel head. Scent of bitter chocolate and mild roastiness. Very nice nose. Nice roasted bitterness in the flavor - the hops, chocolate and slight coffee bounce around in unison. Light on the tongue. A delicious brew!

Jun 1, 2008 Pours a dark dark brown to black, with a decent enoug head fading quickly. The nose is sweet and roasty. Hershey’s chocolate syrup. Maybe some spicy depth to the roast, like coffee can have. A bit fizzier on the tongue than I’d expect, but not too bad, a bit of substance. The flavor is sweet! This reminds me quite a bit of Kalamazoo Stout. This would be a good clone. Creamy sweet. A bit more hershey’s chocolate syrup. A hard roast, giving way to anise. But... a bit of DMS lurks beneath this roast. A bit of a flaw, but it holds up in this beer with it’s full flavor profile. But still detracts.

Oct 21, 2007 12 ounce bottle pint glass. Black with brown ring head. Chocolate chip cookie aroma. Very fruity flavor, like roasted dark chocolate Raisinettes with lingering fruity bitterness. Medium-full body, medium carbonation. Perhaps not entirely fresh. Very drinkable and enjoyable if not the most complex of stouts

Feb 13, 2009 Inky opaque black with a creamy brown head. Aroma is sweet, but not especially malty with a minimum of roast. Taste is nicely roasty but not particulary aggressive in any way. Very moderate with a nice viscous mouthfeel. $2/12oz

Aug 14, 2003 Very dark, black body with a medium brown head of fluffy bubbles. Smell is chocolate malty balanced with bitter dark roast coffee and some brown sugar. Beer feels medium thick and creamy in mouth, with not much carbonation. Has a very silken feel on the tongue. Taste is all things dark and roasty malts paired with a deluxe creaminess; a very effective duo that works well here. Aftertaste is more roasted notes and coffee bitterness. Alcohol is camoflagued heavily and definately out of site. My only gripe about this beer is the relaxed (idle really) hops that seemed to miss roll-call on my palate. Still, this beer is a keeper and a very good one at that.

Apr 2, 2003 Nice dark brown/black color with a nice head. Nose of roasted coffee with a hint of sweetness. Nice and dry flavor. Good roasted malts. Nice beer.

Dec 1, 2002 I remember this one as having a lot of chocolate and hop character, both in sharp focus. This one has big chocolate character, but the whole thing comes out a bit muddy and pruney. One of the blackest stouts I have ever seen. No real head.
