Nice bitterweet chocolate, coffee, menthol, sweet salted meats, and a light smokiness. Light almost watery mouthfeel, with a nice salted meat character, and tart oaky acidity. merlin48 (522), New Tazewell, Tennessee, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 3, 2008 Very dark pour sits opaque in the glass. Ruby tinged cocoa head retains well and leaves some decent lacing. Aroma is milk chocolate and overroasted coffee. Taste has a nice dark roasty bitterness with some hints of chocolate. Hints of anise and pine hops add some interest. A good American stout. alexanderj (2293), Chino Hills, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 30, 2008 Bottle courtesy of a birthday present; pours a dark blackish color with a small light brown head. Aroma was pretty good with chocolate, roasted malt, and caramel. Really drinkable. Flavor was a nice blend of coffee, roasted malt and chocolate. Hint of bitterness. Palate was a bit thin, but it was’t too detracting. Good for the style. MrBendo (1052), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 2, 2007 Bottle. Pours near black with a small head. Aroma of roasted malt and coffee. Mostly dry taste, with a semi-bitter finish. By the book stout. jgb9348 (2515), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 16, 2003 Pitch black colour with a dark brown dense head of 1 centimetre. Aroma of roasted malt & pit fruit. A bit sweet and a bit bitter, but very nice and complex. Medium-bodied; roasted malt taste with very obvious tastes of coffee. More subtle tastes of chocolate and dark fruit: raisins, plums, raisins, etc. as well. The palate is left high & dry, bittered out from the roasted malt! A pretty good beer, spot on for the style and perhaps a bit better than average. Worth trying, because it's probably available to you, if it's available to me in Virginia! I bought my 12 ounce bottle at Total Wine in McLean, Virginia. JK (2968), Richfield, Minnesota, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 23, 2007 A simple but pleasant stout with all of the usual characteristics. The Aroma has chocolate and malt, and the flavor has these as well as coffee. A fairly thick and heavy beer with a better than average palate, and it is very smooth. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 4, 2007 Pretty decent for a generic Stout. It pours thick and dark brown out of the bottle, then turns black in the glass and is covered by a deep cocoa head. Nice aroma of fresh coffee, chocolate, and barley. The chocolate grows in the flavor as the coffee fades back and a soft bitterness comes in near the finish. Pretty decent stuff.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 6, 2002 Quite good. A comparison to Cooper’s Best is a good one; this is close to a dry stout, IMO, but not quite. One tiny touch too artificially sweet (chocolate) in aroma and flavor, detracts slightly. A tad more hops might help too. But still, a really good stout.
