Rich chocolate aroma along with a slight smokiness and lots of sweet dark fruit notes that I find quite appealing. A black body supports a thumb thick tan head that fades quickly. Fore is smooth and chocolatey with a hint of vanilla, dried cherries and caramel. The flavor is very nice, subtle in intensity, but with good range.

Bottle. This is one mouthfull of beer. Style-wise, it’s a little to thick for me. And certainly over-hopped. I love it. Khaki brown head over a ruddy black body. Perfume of hops and roasted malt. I searched for the peat, and when I foundit, the hops slammed the door shut. Big roasted malt and chocolate (the bitter kind) fill the senses and earthy hops make this beer a thinker.

(06.12.06) 12 oz brown bottle from beeronthewall.com. Poured opaque brown with small tan head. Soft carbonation. Chocolate/roasted malt/hop aroma. Medium bodied ale that starts dry with tiny malt sweetness and caramel/expresso coffee/intensely roasted malt flavors. Finished dry with smoky burnt flavor and bitterness. Dry and astringent-like in the mouth. Flavor similar to a rauchbier. Excellent drinkable porter.

One of the myriad of beers I had while enjoying myself with my family, my brothers family, and his neighbors families on a day after, the day after Thanksgiving Dinner. I’ve had several chances to pour myself this beer, but I always seemed to trade away all my bottles, but a quick stop at my BevMo, I noticed they had some in so I picked up a sixer to make sure, this time I was able to have some.
The pour is a deep, deep brownish/blackish color with a nice one-finger thick dark brown head. Inhaling the aroma, the first thing that hit my senses was the molasses. Then the onslaught of coffee, dark chocolate and a touch of toffee (reminded me of those Skor candy bars...love those). Mouthfeel is creamy, soft and smooth. Flavor is an incredible amalgamation of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, a touch of liquid smoke with a smooth, clean finish. Really, a top notch porter that I think should be deserving of a bit more recognition.

Opaque brown pour with a filmy head of medium size and stringy lacing. This looks amazingly inviting sitting in the glass. Rich, roasted malty aroma with strong notes of chocolate, cream, and coffee. Smooth and creamy yet thinner than I like, but not by much. Great aftertaste, filling and drinkable. Sweet, roasted malt and grainy bread flavors. Milk chocolate along with bitter coffee and a touch of pacific northwest hops. Similar to a sweet stout, this is an awesome relaxing dark beer.

My 40th porter. Bottle. Roasty, toasty aroma with firm nuttiness and slight peaty smoke. Opaque pitch pour with a lovely light brown head - lacing, rocky, playful. Taste is robust and roasty, lots of malt and nuttiness, light flloating fruitiness and delicious blending peat. Fainter chocolate and a touch of whisky. Smooth mf with prickling up front, medium sessionable mouthfeel. Really gets the synergy working, there’s some rare style at work here. Could drink several bottles of this in a night - de-friggin-licious!

This poured darker brown color with a small tan head. Aroma was of peated malts, light whiskey, and some roasted malts. Flavor was of peat/light smoke, roasted malts, and some light chocolate too. A pleasant surprise.
