3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 shigadeyo (2399) - Harrison, USA - JUL 10, 2007
6/24/2007 and 7/10/2007: Steelhead Scotch Porter is very dark brown and opaque. It has a decent tan/brown head that is dense and long-lasting and leaves some light lacing. Roasted malt, chocolate, some faint char, and some fruitiness (when warmer) can be found in the aroma. The flavor has roasted malt with some chocolate and darkly roasted coffee undertones. There is also some of that deep, carmelized maltiness and fruitiness that is typical of Scotch Ales. The finish has a lot of dry, dark chocolate and char flavor. More and more coffee flavor and dry smoke come out as the beer warms up. This beer has a medium-full body and is very smooth. Overall, this beer is full-flavored and robust. The peated malt is is nice addition and was obviously done carefully. This beer met and slightly exceeded my expectations. Steelhead Scotch Porter is a well crafted beer that is quite easy to drink despites its complex flavors.
12 oz bottles from River’s Bend Wine and Spirits. Rating #151 for this beer...

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 jmohno (390) - Iowa, USA - MAY 17, 2012
Dark brown but reddish brown up to the light,1/2 inch head diminishes to a ring with bits of lacing.
Aroma is chocolate hints of sweet smoke mostly a pleasant chocolate aroma with some mild sweet malt/breadiness.
Mouthfeel is smooth somewhat creamy at first then hops a roast with maltiness finishing with some sweet notes with cherry a little smoke then more chocolate and an herbal like bittering, some woody dryness maybe a bit of vanilla or carmel.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 MadRobin (177) - Silver Spring, USA - MAY 7, 2012
Poured from 12 oz. bottle at at Quarry House Tavern in Silver Spring, MD. Bottle did not include the word "Scotch," although it was otherwise identical to photos of "Mad River Scotch Porter" on the web. This did not have the big smoked flavors mentioned by other reviewers.
Opaque, nearly black, brown with 3-finger tan head that settled in due order and very good lacing
Very mild aroma if roasted malt, caramel, coffee and chocolate with an even fainter musty tinge.
Taste is a more pronounced dark, roasted malt flavor with molasses and a bit of smoke as it warmed.
Below medium body (but not too weak) with light carbonation.

Bottle. Aroma of peat malt and chocolate. Taste is roasted and peat malts. Body is light to medium. Carbonation is medium. When I opened the bottle a massive cocoa aroma was immediately evident. However, I only tasted a little cocoa after the pour.
