Steelhead Scotch Porter is a unique twist on a tradional style. Balanced with dark roasted barley and crystal malts, with the perfect blend of peated malt for a subtle smokey flavor.

A Scotch Porter. Great idea, great combination. The Scotch is very evident, and pleasing, compared to a solo Scotch Ale. Nice smokey malt as well.

Pours a cloudy dark brown with a thin light brown head. Slightly smokey bakerís chocolate smell, similar flavor. Well-balanced bittersweetness. Porters are tough I think, this oneís good though.

Copper color with a tall and lasting tan head. Light to medium body, flavored intensity matching well the body, rich mouthfeel, long palate. Lightly bittersweet. Milk chocolate roast flavor. Initially unassertive, it grows on you. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 ounce bottle poured into a brandy snifter. The beer is a dark brown, and has a huge head of beige foam. The aroma is dry, ashy, smoky, and has some woody notes as well. Itís on the verge of actually being sweet, but the roasty, smoky character is just too strong of a flavor. Medium body, and actually kind of chewy mouthfeel. The carbonation level is about right, though the head that kept building up during the pour seemed to indicate it was either over carbonated, or infected. Neither was the case. Itís a pretty decent beer all around.

12 oz. bottle from BevMo. Nose of roasted malt with some chocolate and char. Taste of milk chocolate upfront, followed by a light coffee bitterness giving way to moderate peat smoke on the back-end. Hint of caramel and bread in the aftertaste. Excellent flavor and balance. Goes down very easy. A great example of a classic English porter.

Pours black with an off-white head. Nose shows roasted malt and cocoa, soft bready notes and some liquorice too. Dry roasty flavours, some toasty malt and liquorice. Perfectly balanced.

Bottle. Dark roast malt nose, pleasant coffee notes. Dark translucent brown, tan head. Roast malt, mild coffee, light bittering, chocolate from mid palate, dry finish. Thin-medium body, very smooth. Not sure what exactly makes this a "Scotch" brew. Tasty, though.

Deep brown with thin beige head. Earthy aromas, backed up by a sweet milk chocolate and a touch of the promised peat malt for the twist. Lingering subtle bitterness balances this finely tuned machine.

355 ml bottle Dark brown with hints of ruby. Light tan head that falls to a thin film. Nose is peat, raisin, coco, grain, and toffee. Smokey and sweet. Taste is smokey and sweet. Dark fruit, coco, roast, and earthy. Touch too thin but does not hurt it. Good lingering bitterness. Was pretty skeptical on this but am quite impressed. Good balance to this.

June 20th, 2013 - The context for this deliciously flavored beer is lost to time. One clue is that I didnít list it as a "Scotch Porter", but merely a porter. Perhaps this suggests it was a poorly labeled item on a menu, and so I picked it out while out and about. Thatís easy to do when someone pastes "Scotch" across the front. Thatís a style that has had me hooked since my Laughing Lab days in Colorado Springs. Does Mad Riverís version hold up? The aroma is on par, with a slight oiliness, a bit of toasted malt, though not too much that is discernibly sweet. But the flavor practically explodes. Where were these tastes on the nose? Light raisin, a slight smoked touch, and a brutish, fig with plans to conquer to world. Thereís a lot packed into this pint, and the nose clues me in on little to none of it.
