COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our American Wheat is an original example of this relatively new beer style. Light and refreshing, American-style wheat beers have gained popularity for their lively effervescence and easy drinking flavor. Wheat malt dominates the sensory attributes of this beer, with light hop additions to bring out a pleasant citrus aroma. This beer is intentionally left unfiltered and therefore cloudy, in order to preserve the complex flavor components of the beer.

Loose $1.50 Bottle from HyVee, Carroll, IA. Poured into a straight 312 Wheat glass, kicks up a big, white head, a little pillowy. Slightly hazy yellow, a few particles from the sediment in the bottle. Smell, is OK, resembles the 312 it’s probably trying to emulate, with mostly light malt, a slight twinge of wheat spice. Taste is average. A bit sweet, slight wheat malt note. Bitterness is not very noticeable, as is normal for an American Wheat. Foam was teetered off to a very few bits of lace. Good enough picnic beer. Hope these brewers keep working on their technique.

Bottle at MN Gathering @ Skyview V. Light yellow pour with a small white head. Pretty bland aroma and taste of mild wheat. Okay.

uh, thanks milkmandan. Pale yellow iwht no head. Diactyl. Just what I want in a wheat beer. Tastes like sweet corn. Relatively new style compared to what? The invention of beer?

Pours a slightly cloudy yellowish golden color with almost no head. Some carbonation bubbles. Smells of wheat. Tastes of wheat with maybe a lemon aftertaste. Not a very good beer.

12oz bottle from John’s Grocery in Iowa City, IA. Pours a mostly clear, yellow, gold tinted body with a finger-width, frothy and fizzy, off-white head that dissipates quickly and leaves a moderate lacing. Aroma is very lemony up front with some sourness and a bit of a papery grain. Crisper wheats along with a metallic yeastiness. Not a horrible aroma, but kind of weird. Flavor is worse. Band-aid up front with a wheaty lemon-zest. Papery and grainy pale malts with a bit of a metallic yeast. Finishes with a citrusy band-aid that lacks any hopping and leaves a lengthy aftertaste of band-aid. Thin, somewhat watery body with a moderate carbonation. Overall, a pretty bad wheat beer. I can tell there is some lemon-zest and yeasty spice alongside a decent wheat character, but there is a shit load of band-aid in this and it dominates every flavor. I really enjoyed some of the other Madhouse beers I’ve had, so I hope this was just a bad bottle. I will revisit when given the chance, but for now, this sucks.

Pours hazy yellow with light yeast notes. As I wheat beer the palate is muted on the yeast notes. A decent finish.

Very bready aroma but also something off about it, possibly metallic. Taste is a little metallic and notes of fruit, not very good.

Aroma: heavy clove and sour/boozy, some grass; Appearance: hazy yellow, almost no gold, thin, very bubbly (almost soapy) head on pour that quickly dissipates; Taste: tastes a lot like it smells, heavy clove and floral, some lemony sour as well, pretty darn good but nothing standout, I’ve had other brews that taste a lot like this one does, although I am failing to recall one right at the moment; Palate: mostly floral, good carbonation keeps the flavor in your nose, a good summer beer, I’d imagine (even though its November right now); Overall: prefectly acceptable wheat ale, although nothing monumental about it, being that I’m from Iowa, I’m happy to enjoy this Iowan brew

UPDATED: DEC 18, 2010 Bottle. A - Hazy light golden color with a small, tight, creamy, frothy, soapy white head. Decent retention that disappears a little quick. Thin, creamy layer of lace. S - Pretty faint aroma with light wheat being the majority of the aroma. Some citrusy lemon aroma and a bit of yeast. T - Typical pale wheat flavors. Some light wheat flavors paired with some lemony citrus, and a touch of spiciness. Some yeasty flavors mid-sip. Slightly sweet grainy taste. M - Light body with about average carbonation. Crisp bite with a pretty clean finish. A bit too thin though. D - Easy to drink, but it doesn’t inspire me to drink more. Just kind of blah in flavor. Notes: Average pale wheat flavor. Some light wheat flavors with just bits of citrus and spice. Nice for a cool summertime brew, but nothing spectacular. Probably better things you could get.
