COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Coffee Stout is rich and smooth with just a hint coffee flavor. It is crafted using five different malted grains, which results in dark color and flavors of chocolate and heavily roasted malt. We then partnered with Des Moines based U.S. Roasterie to select a Mocha Java coffee to add depth and flavor to beer. We think it turned out great and hope you will agree!

Aroma- nice mocha and coffee on the nose. Burnt caramel hints as well. Appearance: This is a stout alright. Even the head is tinted black. Taste: Very interesting. It has nice burnt sweet caramel flavors and a bitter finish from the coffee. Palate: the mouthfeel is lighter than a normal coffee stout. Makes this a bit easier to drink in someways because of the bitter coffee finish. The combination keeps you coming back. Overall: Really enjoyable. Had this on tap and out of the 22 oz bomber. Didn’t notice a difference b/t the two. I’d recommend this beer for someone who isn’t super into heavy stouts. The mouthfeel is more like a guinness or a black IPA-- it’s really quite drinkable and balanced.

22 ounce bottle thanks to ekoerper, thanks a ton Ed, poured a dark black color with a nice khaki head, aromas of coffee, roast, and some light caramel. Flavors were all cold pressed coffee, with some light roasted malt, and a touch of vanilla. Really surprised by this beer, another great morning tailgating beer, can’t thank you enough Ed.

Dark brown pour, brown head. Aroma is coffee up front, roast and chocolate. Lots of coffee flavor, cocoa nibs, roast, light lactose tartness. Good!

Dark brown with a light brown head. Good coffee aroma, plus coffee and roasty flavor with some chocolate in the taste. Coffee flavor is about right as well, not overwhelming. Nice coffee stout.

Bottle. A - Pitch black with an average sized, frothy, smooth, creamy, sandy beige head. Decent retention leaving a thin, creamy lace. S - Definitely dominated by roasted black coffee. Touches of roasted malt and chocolate but it plays second fiddle to the coffee. A faint smokey/peaty and earthy aroma. T - Like the nose suggested, the flavor is dominated by dark, roasted coffee. There is a slight coffee astringency, but not too much. Slight creamy and mocha flavors along with the normal coffee. Mid sip to finish there is more of the slight smokey/peaty flavor along with a slight tartness. Slight bittersweet chocholate toward the finish as well. M - Medium body with average carbonation. Very slick and smooth. D - Goes down easy with a good body and nice taste. A little too much coffee to have me want it on a regular basis, but nice enough flavor. Notes: Tons of coffee flavor. Not bad flavor, although it is a little too unbalanced toward coffee. As I was really disappointed in the IPA, I wasn’t expecting much, but it ended up being a decent beer. Still could use some tweaking, but it seems like they learned a bit from the IPA. I liked it, but can’t see myself getting it regularly (both for the price and the unbalanced coffee).

22oz bottle from John’s Grocery in Iowa City, IA. Pours a black body with a thin, creamy, brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a moderate lacing. Aroma is really nice with lots of fresh coffee and milky sweet chocolates. A touch of earthy peat and grain with a light roast. Flavor is similar. Lots of fresh coffee up front with plenty of milky chocolates to balance. A nice roast alongside the coffee with a light earth as well. Finishes dry with lots of coffee, roasts, and chocolate that leaves a medium, roasty and earthy bitterness. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium-thin body and a moderate carbonation. Overall, a really nice coffee stout. Lots of fresh coffee and a solid sweetness from the milky chocolates to balance very nicely. Extremely easy drinking and a nice roasty earth giving this a solid bitterness. I really liked this one.

Bottle thanks to Ed. Pours a pure black color with a medium white head. The aroma is sweet roasted coffee. The flavor comes across as a rich milky coffee with some smoke and a big roast. Balanced by the sweetness and roast. Enjoyable.

Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma has coffee, fudge and berries. Taste is sweet with coffee roast. Thinner bodied with a dry finish. Exceeded my expectations. Pretty good!

Thanks, CanIHave4Beers! Tasted from a bomber bottle into a tulip glass. Poured an opaque, black as black color with huge, moussy tan foam and exquisite Belgian lace. A perfect appearance. Judging by all that protein, they must’ve included plenty of unmalted oats or roasted barley. True-to-style coffee stout aromas and flavors. Fresher and darker-roasted coffee than typical, with a lighter, more digestive body than some. Extremely dry, toasty finish. Drinkable and delicious.
