22oz bottle from John’s Grocery in Iowa City, IA. Pours a clear, amber, orange tinted colored body with a finger-width, dense and frothy, off-white to tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is pretty solid with lots of herbal, resiny, tea-like hops. Slightly sharper citruses with melon rinds and a few pines as well. Malts open up a bit as this warms with some sweeter caramel and a touch of bread offering a nice backing to the hops, but definitely staying in the background. Flavor is similar. Lots of herbal, citrusy hops up front with some resins, pines, and more tea-like flavors. Malts come in nicely to balance, but again stay in the background with some caramel and a hint of toasty bread. I get a bit of a growing toffee flavor towards the end as this finishes dry and balanced with a medium-high bitterness that is citrusy, herbal and piney, and has some resins. Lengthy aftertaste with more malt coming out following a medium body and soft, moderately lively carbonation. Very easy drinking. Overall, a really nice, flavorful, well-balanced IPA. Lots of fresh, herbal hops with some pines, resins, and plenty of citrus. Solid malt backing that allows the hops to take the forefront while offering a pleasant added sweetness. I liked this one.

22 oz. bottle, $4.99 at HyVee in Newton. Base C&C hop note in the nose. Another big spongy head when poured into a shaker glass. Beer in the glass is just slightly hazy light amber color. Taste has a bit too much sweetness at the start that makes a bit cloying. Honey? It’s not adjunct, I don’t think. Maybe just too much malt that should fermented out further. Or the hops are already fading on this bottle, which has no date, but I bought in the grocery nearest to the brewery in March. Re-reading their description, I wonder if their technique meant to extract more hop flavor should have allowed more bitterness in, too. The hops there are the basic pine needle and citrus, although there is a note of tropical fruit to it as well. Maybe even some perfume. As a homeboy, I’m trying to like it more. Some watery mouthfeel is also a slight tick against, when I want to be feeling more effects of alcohol this late at night.

Bottle picked up at Beertopia Omaha, opened in Exira, Iowa. Clear, reddish orange appearance with a light brown head. Somewhat piney, a little bitter, grapefruit hoppy, lightly toasty malty aroma. Pretty toasty, light caramel malty, sweet grapefruit citrusy hoppy flavor. Not bad.

Pours copper..not much head...aroma is floral light pine..taste is creamy smooth citrus..good but expected more hopps..

22 ounce bottle thanks to Ed. Clear golden pour. Aroma of citrus and diacetyl, slight bready malts. The flavor is full of butter coated American hops and bready malts. Other then the diacetyl, not a bad beer.

Nice and mellow, easy drinking

Thick beer. Orange pour. Light aroma. Malty backbone with caramel hints. Straw and pine hop flavor, dry bitter finish. It’s good but some of the flavors are muted for a double IPA. It’s like a solid apa.

Appearance: Pours a hazy bright amber with a small soapy swirly head.

Aroma: Tropical fruit, grapefruit, cotton candy. Toast.

Taste: Earthy and sugary malt, earthy hops.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with low carbonation.

Overall: I would have enjoyed more bitterness and more "hop burst." If there is a hop pun or the word hop in the name of the beer, it better bring it. This beer was just too sweet and not hoppy enough for my personal liking.

Very good and hoppy...just the way I like it! Reminded me of the original FreshHop ale by Great Divide brewery except it’s filtered. I do prefer mine a litlle cloudy and chunky but I was very surprised at this balanced and piney brew.

Bottle from Ed, Thanks! Pour into my surlyfest stein. Nice looking beer! Fairly dark clear copper, with big chunky head that fades to near picture perfect lacing. Aroma is a bunch of floral hops, quite resiny, lots of sticky sweet caramel malt. Flavor is much the same, lots of citrus, floral, slightly piny back end hops, and lots of sticky malt up front. Slightly grassy. Sticky sweet finish. Overall, not bad, but didn’t really "pop" as much as I was hoping for. Could have used a bit more bitterness (or just less sweet caramel malt) to really shine.
