3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz bottle, Bought in March from HyVee in Newton ($4.99). My Earth Day beer if you will, not just because Iím a homeboy, but as in more ingredients being sourced from nearby. Pours with a big head, and and orange, slightly pink tinge to it. Head stays pretty big and even crown over the top of the glass. Smell is a usual Cascade/Centennial note, mostly bits of citrus. Hop taste is still pretty fresh, just slightly green with a few grass clippings along with an aggressive bitterness. Malt profile is supportive of the hop. Feels like Madhouse is overcoming its freshman bumps and starting to dial in its recipes better. If they come back to tweak their flagship beers, better. Anyway, clearly shows the properties of its hop varietals, Sharply bitter, yet pretty quaffable--and hopheads can choke down some pretty undrinkable stuff to get the hop burn. HmmÖ caught a very slight whiff of smoke or peat that Iím sure isnít intended. But an enjoyable nightcap after a day in which the Blackhawks survived to Game 6 and, oh yes, A White Sox Pitcher Notched ANOTHER Perfect Game.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Aroma is relatively faint piney hops. The flavor is mild grapefruit, malts and not bitterness compared to other IPAs. Not bad, not great.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
651mL 2011ed thanks to BeerHawk11. Pours clear, true amber with a healthy, off-white to buttermilk cream head. Nice retention settling with webby, sticky lace. Low carbonation. Nose is feels like they forgot to dry hop or perhaps these local hops are beta acid deficient. Instead, the nose is thick malty, oatmeal, husky grain, rustic earth. Mild butter character. Taste is very strange: sharp and spicy, raw grainy, corn field. No real apparent flaws but it is essentially a very malty, rich amber ale with almost no hop profile expected in American style IPA. I donít really have a problem with this but it does actually taste "farmy" and raw/rustic. No diacetyl or soap, which is nice. Thicker, oatmeal and cream of wheat finish. Very interesting....could certainly use some aromatic hops and a bump in IBUs which feel very low for style. Probably 30 IBUs.

4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured from 22oz bottle from Jasper Winery in Des Moines, IA. That is their winery so super fresh Iím sure. Filtered clear, nice head on pour. Small piney aromas smells super clean. Head dissapates and ready to take first taste. Carbonation grips you perfectly, nice grapefruity flavor reminiscent of their pale. The color is orangeish copperish. As beer warms in glass aromas begin to escape! Floral and piney tones paired with the nice bitterness creates a very nice beer! Too bad it is but made with their own grown limited supply.hops so I guess its seasonal.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Glad to see another decent Iowa ipa. Very fizzy, dissipating head. Orange pour. Itís more malty, caramelly than hoppy (though a bit of citrus to it), so not your normal IPA, but itís pretty drinkable.

1.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20
Pours clear amber with a 2 finger, sort of chunky light beige head that has great retention and leaves nice lacing. Aroma is full of sweet malt, super buttery toffee, watermelon Jolly Ranchers, caramel and a little floral, citrusy hop character, but not much. Flavor is buttery toffee, cream corn, fruity candy, old mop water, band aids and light medicinal notes. Palate is light to medium bodied, slightly chalky and dry throughout with a light to moderate carbonation. This is a terrible IPA, really more of a completely subpar amber ale than IPA. Looks really nice though.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
22 oz. bomber shared by STLWill- thanks again, Will! I had never heard of this before. Pours a clear amber color, sort of dull, with a small white head. Aroma is super heavy on malts of all stripes, mostly pale and sweet, with some earthy hops, raisins, and wheat. Flavor follows up with just as much maltiness- sweet, bready, dry, and pale- along with earthy hops, raisins, wheat, oats, and pistachios. Really unusual aroma and flavor profile for an IPA, but damn if I didnít like it. Medium-bodied, with a malty mouthfeel (duh) and a lot of soft carbonation. Highly unusual beer- I wouldnít have picked it out as an IPA at all- but it worked for me.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: DEC 10, 2011 Tried again with the 2011 version. Vastly improved with a much stronger hop profile. While not in the super bitter range, it is much more like a decent IPA now. I would be ok with having this on on a regular basis if it tasted this good all the time. Dark amber colored body with a long lasting yet thin light khaki head. The nose has some caramel and a little bit of grapefruit. There is also some hay. This smells very sweet. Hay and a little bit of grapefruit in the taste. Candy caramels and apple come to play after drinking more. This is a crystal malt bomb. I like, but do not love this one. It is like an amped up amber ale.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Draft. Poured a clear copper color with a thin light tan head. I smelled hints of pine and sulfur. Not all that attractive. Light to medium bodied and slightly sweet without much bitterness. Tasted of lemony dish soap, subdued pine, dry toast, and minimal caramel. While there was nothing extremely offensive, I didnít particularly like this one.

Amber pour with a white head. Sweet caramel aroma. Flavor was sweet syrupy caramel and a bit of hops that had little flavor. Reminds me of a 6 month old IPA. Sweet finish. I hope they reformulate the next time.
