4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured from bottle into a snifter
Appearance – The beer pours a clear red tinted orange amber color with a one finger head of foam. The head fades over a moderate level of time to leave a decent level of streaky lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell- The aroma of the brew is heaviest of a sweeter fruity aroma being mainly of a melon and tangerine smell. Along with these smells comes some hoppy aromas being mostly a mix of grapefruit and an earthy smell, but also containing a faint floral hop aroma as well. With a bit of a musty smell and a bit of bread, a rather sweet and intriguing aroma is overall produced.
Taste – The taste starts with a bready and sweeter fruit flavor with a nice tangerine sweetness upfront. Other sweeter flavors of caramel are upfront as well, being mixed with a good showing of a grapefruit hop. The grapefruit grows stronger in nature as the taste moves on to the end, being accompanied by some herbal and initially lighter pine hop tastes. While the grapefruit is the strongest at the end, the pine does get to a more moderate strength overall. Some slightly musty and a moderately melon taste comes more toward the end of the taste. With a loss of the caramel sweetness and a bit of a dwindling of the tangerine, one is left with a decently hopped, and still smooth and still rather fruity sweet flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the rather more syrupy side with a carbonation level that is on the slightly lower side. For the melon fruity flavors and the hoppy tastes the syrupy body is actually quite nice accentuating the hop and creating a sorta chewy feel for the melon. The thickness coupled with the lower carbonation level of the brew, makes of a nice slow sipping style overall.
Overall – This was a very enjoyable double IPA overall. Not the standard citrus bomb that you often get; this one has nice blends of other fruity flavors and a nice blend of hops. Quite enjoyable overall.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle at home. Drove from Montana to Baltimore with beer not in cooler, so maybe not the best showing. Starts sweet-the sweetness that’s hard to avoid in high alcohol beers-with a healthy dose of bitter at the finish. Nice amber color, not super deep or complex in flavor but a nice IPA.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft at brewpub in Belgrade, MT. Deep orange, stringy foam head. Funky, drying sweat nose. Big funky citrus hops. A larger DIPA, first I’ve found on trip. A bit ovv-sour before fruity bitter finish. Nice effort but not great.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Munsemj.
Pours a nice hazy golden with thin white, fluffy head.
Great hop aroma and good taste. Very smooth for being 9% abv. A nice DIPA for sure.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft at the brewery. Medium to dark orange. Thin but sticky head. This drinks with a bitter and earthy character, the bitterness really stark in the finish. Pretty easy to drink for 9% but not living up to their "rich grapefruit" promise. (#4654, 7/5/2012)

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle: Pale copper pour with a thin beige head. Lots of sticky lacing. Floral and citrus aroma is rather potent. Flavor profile is full of citrus, lighter in the florals, and strong in the caramel malts. Really has a solid malty backbone. Lingering hops. Good.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Hazy orange amber with a lasting lightly golden creamy head. Aroma is nice: light pine and tangerine peel. Bitter citrus hops and lightly toasty malts play nicely on the palate. Long bitter finish. Smooth, almost creamy mouthfeel. I’ve had a few beers from these guys, and this is the first one that rises above mediocre. I like the light toastiness.
