3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 curly (2365) - Seattle (Newcastle), USA - MAY 17, 2010
UPDATED: APR 16, 2011 Draft pours hazy orange with a medium white head. Aroma of pine resin, citrus, herb, vine, soap, caramel. Taste has a thick malt sweetness with lots of bitter hops. Great balance overall, medium-full body, creamy texture, soft carbonation..... From a bottle. Taste is not as fresh as draft, sweet, more herb and resin. Still a pretty good DIPA. I could knock it down to a 3.8 maybe but I’m not.

Bottle: Pale copper pour with a thin beige head. Lots of sticky lacing. Floral and citrus aroma is rather potent. Flavor profile is full of citrus, lighter in the florals, and strong in the caramel malts. Really has a solid malty backbone. Lingering hops. Good.

Bottle. Hazy orange amber with a lasting lightly golden creamy head. Aroma is nice: light pine and tangerine peel. Bitter citrus hops and lightly toasty malts play nicely on the palate. Long bitter finish. Smooth, almost creamy mouthfeel. I’ve had a few beers from these guys, and this is the first one that rises above mediocre. I like the light toastiness.

Tap @ Montana Ale Works. Hazy orange pour with a short off-white head leaving minimal lace. Light pine nose. Medium body with a lovely fine, creamy carbonation. Toasted pumpernickel, spruce and grapefruit, and heaps of umami and bitterness in the finish.

12oz Bottle Thanks to Toby. Pours out a crisp clear copper topped with a long lasting sand head. Aroma is sweet caramel malts, hop juice, and a little grain. Taste is more of the sweetness and a little bitter grapefruit peal on the end.

clear bronze with a small white head. incredibly faint nose - light dough, light orange peel, light vitamin. the vitamin / aspirin chalkiness ruins this one before I can even get into it: harsh and abrasive malt combined with orange oil flavored hops... it actually turns my stomach. blargh.

Bottle thanks to Toby. 9% not 7 and listed as Hot Juice Double IPA. I’ll see if this is distinct. Anyway, pours a clear copper color with a large white head. A sweet biscuit nose, some fruity hops almost like grapes. The flavor is good; light bitterness, fruity, sweet, a bit harsh in the finish. Quite dry.

Received a 12-oz bottle via trade with kyzr and received this one as one of Madison River’s Catch & Release beers. Pours a semi-clear dark golden amber colored brew with a decent off-white head that has some nice retention and spotty lacing. Aroma of Cascade and floral hops, light orange zest, and multi-grain malt. Taste is fruity with plenty of citrus and orange zest flavors. Finish has a decent mild bitterness with a powdered caramel and citrus aftertaste. A solid IPA throughout.

This is a pretty solid IPA that has a fair amount of hop flavor. However, despite the name, this beer is not as overhopped as many big IPAs which means you could still enjoy drinking some lighter flavored beers after this one and still be able to taste them. This beer is a bit heavy in the mouth, but in a good way. This is an IPA that can easily be enjoyed in the winter.
