COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Specialty malts bring intimations of brown sugar and vanilla, which meld into the Gnarly’s character. Roasted coffee malt flavors and residual sweetness dance in harmony, obscuring the line between brown ale and porter.

Can - nice dark tea brown with a generous head. Full bodied malty coffee aroma and a bready biscuit taste. I normally go for the hoppy beers but I sure like this one.

Pours a translucent brown from the can with thin khaki head that leaves light lace. Aroma is a mix of chocolate and toasted nuts, almost a cross of porter and brown. Tate follows, nutty and dry with hints of roasted dark malt and bakers chocolate. Lingering bitterness and a hint of a burn in the gut, light carbonation, good stuff.

Pouts a deep burgundy 1 finger head that disappears leaving a layer of suds. Get peanuts, milk chocolate, roastyness on the aroma. Light mouthfeel. Some hops. A very nice brown from the buckeye state. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Can, courtesy b3shine, thanks! Pours lighter transparent brown, tan head. Some retention/lace. Aroma of chocolate, light coffee, nut, light hop. Taste is lightly bitter, chocolate, light roast coffee, light nut. Palate is soft, a bit thin, light bitter finish. Not bad but hard to believe this is 7%.

Brown pour, huge head. Aroma of coffee, milk chocolate. Somewhat hoppy, toasted malt, nuts, woody. Bitter aftertaste. Medium body. Fairly good representative of a style im not usually a fan of.

A decent brown ale, though a bit hoppier than I would prefer for the style. Decent but wouldn't get again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Can thanks to DrSilverworm. Dark brown pour with a medium foamy head that fades to a thin creamy ring. Aroma has a bunch of coffee beans but also some nuts, vanilla, some light burnt wood, and a hint of cocoa. Taste fairly sweet, especially for a brown ale. Seems to work here though since there’s a very nice coffee bitterness to balance in the finish. Coffee beans, nuts, and charred wood all come through nicely. Very light citrus hops near the end. Medium to full body with a light creaminess. Definitely one of the better brown ales I’ve had. Nice suprise.

This is really good. Very roasty. Thick brown pour. Finishes a little bit bitter. Soft carbonation, very well balanced. Bottle thanks to bmoosey.
