COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Specialty malts bring intimations of brown sugar and vanilla, which meld into the Gnarly’s character. Roasted coffee malt flavors and residual sweetness dance in harmony, obscuring the line between brown ale and porter.

Can, as pictured. Definitely a lot bigger and bolder than a standard brown, I was pleased with this. Heavy on the brown sugar I thought. Packed a little bit of a punch.

Thanx Vic for bringing some of your home turf up here. Reviewed from notes, this was poured into a pint glass. The appearance had a nice dark brown color with a nice looking one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute. The smell had a nice roasted nuttiness coming across a caramel/toffee-like maltiness. The taste took those flavors and added a nice creamy coffee-like substance lightly in the background. On the palate, this sat about a light on the body with a pretty good sessionability about it. It leaves a decent creamy aftertaste and finish. Overall, good brown ale I’d have again.

Pours a cloudy gold with a thin white head. No real aroma to speak of. The taste is bland. It’s almost like flat soda. The body is light and the texture tickles the tongue. I had this on tap during Ohio Brew Week. So maybe I got a bad batch.

Can. Nutty coffee and milk chocolate malt aroma. Deep mahogany with a large creamy tan head. Roasty coffee, slightly lactic, and toasty herbal hops flavor. Medium body, average carbonation.

Can - nice dark tea brown with a generous head. Full bodied malty coffee aroma and a bready biscuit taste. I normally go for the hoppy beers but I sure like this one.

Pours a translucent brown from the can with thin khaki head that leaves light lace. Aroma is a mix of chocolate and toasted nuts, almost a cross of porter and brown. Tate follows, nutty and dry with hints of roasted dark malt and bakers chocolate. Lingering bitterness and a hint of a burn in the gut, light carbonation, good stuff.
