3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 ounce can
This is my first MadTree beer but probably not the last. A very balanced and flavorful brown ale is on the heavy side for the style yet still manages to be very drinkable. If their other beers are even half as good this should be an up and coming brewery.
Aroma / Appearance - The fluid brownish base is a light black color with a sandy speckled head. Coffee, rich chocolate brownies, malty maple wood, and smooth hops are a great profile that invites further inspection.
Flavor / Palate - Chocolate cream pie, malts, and a pleasant underlying bitterness sticks to the tongue. The creamy mouthfeel finishes with a wave of malted iced tea. This is almost an imperial brown in nature. Grab a can of this plus maybe a few others the next time you roll through Cincinnati.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft sample at "meet the brewer" night at Incline Public House on March 4, 2013. Dark brown/ruby hue, small tan head that slowly left with good lacing, assertive malty/musty (in a good way) nose, initial sweet malty flavor followed by good bittersweet finish, a nice sensation that’s again somewhat held back by some astringency, like this brewer’s Happy Amber. But it’s still a decent brew and definitely good for style.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Clear dark amber, rim head, tiny dots of lace. Sweet caramel malt with chocolate overtones at the finish. Carbonation provides most of the bittering, adequate for this brew. Strong brown ale; okay, not a brown ale, not a porter...somewhere in-between (as the brewmaster suggested), but I’d prefer one or the other.
