One of the good pils. Low taste but good, same for the palate (little bit pasty) and the aroma. Refreshing. Go get it, you won’t regret it !

(Maes Pils) Can 330 ml from a random gas station in Belgium, served into a glass tankard at home. ABV 5.2% Pale golden yellow, tall and quite thick white head on top, with surprisingly good retention. Heavy lacing on the glass. Aroma of malts, grass, adjuncts, hay. Tastes the same, very sweet and malty, plus some apple juice. Thin body, watery, even the carbonation is a bit low. It was a bit warm but for a first beer after a long trip home, it was pretty ok.

Puszka 330ml. Dosyć wodniste i pijalne. Lekko wysycone.

Apparently, “Maes” is the 3rd most common surname in Belgium. My old Belgian friend is “Maes”, too. This is another typical Belgian Pils where you can drink almost any establishment. Light golden colour beer with Saaz hop aroma. Very Refreshing on hot summer days.

I had this at Global Brew. Pours yellow with a white head. Taste grass, corn, lightly sweet. I thought this was good. I would drink this again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Popular standard lager originally just called Maes but in 2009 replaced by a bit stronger version as Maes Pils. The original version had a snow white, thin and loose head and pale yellow blonde colour with lots of fizz. The aroma consisted of pale malts, cooked corn, iron, sweat, white bread and some grassy hops; the taste was neutral, metallic and mineral-like, bit corn-like with only very light maltiness, watery mouthfeel and a very volatile, simple, not even bitter hoppiness in the finish which was otherwise dominated by the metallic taste. Heineken turned it into a new version in april 2009 with a little higher ABV, but at the same time a weaker aroma, albeit with less disturbing corn and somewhat more pronounced hops and a little bit more body in the mouth, with a bit longer, more hop bitter finish, though the metallic aftertaste is still there. Improved, but in such a subtle way that most people will hardly notice it - I had to taste both versions side by side to establish the micro differences between them. All in all, still a bland mass-marketed lager and by no means a classic Pilsener, so I would strongly recommend reclassifying this as a pale lager by style. The points I’ve given here relate to the new version.
