The aroma is lightly flowery, a tad bit Saazy, and inviting. The flavor is distinctly biscuity, but not in a real cookie-malty way. The pleasant enough little bitterness counteracts well enough. Still, I wouldn’t put this ahead of a good quality pilsner ... not sure how this is labeled an "ale" but classified as a "pilsner". Anything with a name that implies sleepiness, usually infers high alky content but this is not the case. Unlike ol horzy, this stuff is barely 6%. 12 oz brown bottle. Pop the lid and a darker beer yeast aroma follows. This has an odd label, a photo of somebody sleeping. His name evidently is Alan. No head in a pour but there is a very fine ring around the edge of the glass. Its color is fairly bright yellow with an ever present hint of very light brown. Impressively clear, clean appearance. This tastes much stronger than it looks. It appears to be masquerading, in looks, like a pale yellow lager. Tasting reveals the old familiar mild pilsner taste bud punch. Nice carbonation that is readily appreciated. When finishing the beer a steady mild bitterness builds to medium bitterness on the back of the throat. For a pilsner, it sure is ale-like in many ways, especially in harsh personality. Certainly the attributes put it someplace between a rave and grave. Not nearly as good as Bavik Premium Pils, but on par with Lancaster Gold Star Pilsner, Pilsner Urquell and Schell Pilsner

| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Feb 7, 2007 Pours a hazy light brown body with a decent looking white foam that’s quickly disappearing. The aroma is mild citrus and bread. Flavors remind me more of a wheat beer that’s starting to sour. A mild dyacital finish. aubreya (676), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Feb 5, 2007 The color was a very clear, very watery golden. The head was fizzy, thin, and white. The aroma was yeasty and tart fruit. The flavor, while more interestig inflavor than other pilsners I’ve had, was still rather bland. The palate was watery and lacking and there wasn’t really a finish. The flavor just kindof stopped ubruptly. emacgee (1864), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 5, 2007 Pours a clean golden brew with some chill haze. The head is medium, slightly frothy, and white. The aroma is light, straw/grass/corn, smells like a pale lager. Tastes like a beefed up macro. Some hop bite and straw malt backbone. Crisp mouthfeel. Refreshing. Nate (2538), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA

Nice grassy lemony aroma, with floral hops and that pils aroma that is more indicative of a Lithuanian or Czech farmhouse ale. Crisp. Dull golden yellow clear with a thin white lacing head. Light watery body with mild carbonation. Hoppy pils flavor profile, soft, with grassy flavors and mild malt sweetness. Lemony bitter finish with mild chalky bitter after. Slightly better than all those other average pils that everyone seems to make. Is it the style or is it just everyone being lazy that makes most pilseners be mediocre? I thought it was a solid pilsener. I probably would not buy it over magic hat’s other staples if it became one, but a nice change of pace in the mix pack.
