Commercial Description:
A Beer Cloaked in Secrecy An ale whose mysterious and unusual palate will swirl across your tongue and ask more questions than it answers. A beer brewed clandestinely and given a name whose meaning is never revealed. Why #9? Why, indeed. A sort of dry, crisp, fruity, refreshing, not-quite pale ale. #9 is really impossible to describe because there’s never been anything else quite like it. Fermented with our 150 year old strain of top-fermenting English yeast.

Sample tap at BJ’s GPM. Pours pale golden orange. Nice fruity nose, fresh and inviting. Taste is very sharp, crisp, some fruit flavor but dominated by the carb bite. This is not something I would reach for again, but if I had just finished push mowing the yard and someone handed me a cold one, I would gladly accept.

Pours a golden orange/pils color. The first couple times I had this beer, it was unbearably apricot-y and had a really weird bitterness to it. This one has mellowed considerably. Still smells of apricots, some pils, and grassiness. Quite drinkable and fruity. Not a bad summer beer.

Bottle courtesy of Avengedpoet. Pours a golden color with a white head. Aroma is apricots, hops, malt. Flavor is apricot, malt, hops. Sweet fruity finish but not too cloying. Decent brew.

She is dressed to the nines, replete in clear sparkling orange and amber sequins with a soft, faintly orange top her showpiece. She wears a delicate necklace while choosing to skip on the lacy adornments today. Her perfume is orange, honey, melon, and lemon with a solid backing of wet, sweet cereal grains and freshly bailed hay. A gentle lass, just as her visage is easy on the eyes and her aroma quite soothing, our first moments together are equally gentle and welcoming. Lightly sweet with honey and cereal, fresh lemon zest tingles on top of my tongue and in the finish. A very clean quaff with a short, fleeting finish leaves little to the imagination. She shows a bit of her wild tropical side with melon, pineapple, and mango tangoing atop her steady undercurrent of honey, cereal grains, and bailed hay. There is only a faint drying sensation as #9s palate is brief, albeit highly sessionable and refreshing. It doesn’t take long for our time together to draw to a sad, and like the swift train she came into my life on, she just as quickly departs with nary a memory or memento.

Yep. A Gateway Beer. Magic Hat’s #9 Pale Ale is good, but it’s certainly not great nor is it breaking any ground. But that is the purpose of this brew, and why it is a favorite of many of the newly indoctrinated beer aficionados. It’s clean, easy to drink, tastes great, and is different than the mass produced swill that is a product of advertising, not brewing. This is the beer you bring fishing with you, to a friend’s house, especially one you want to convert to the world of Good Beer, or to the beach for a long day of fun in the summer sun. Maybe someday soon when a customer asks me if I have any Magic Hat, I will be able to answer with a “Yes” and show him/her #9 and the wide world of beer that awaits them.

Bought this one in a gourmet shop in Lake Geneva, WI. Interesting malt with a light sugar raisin thing happening. Hops were slightly citrusy and balanced failrly well. A good session brew.

Pours a golden orange with a thin white head. Aroma is light with fruit and malt. Drinks fairly smooth with notes of orange, malt, bit of hops, and sugar. Kind of interesting, seems to change with each sip. Not that exciting though. This is my first beer from Magic Hat and really not that impressed. An OK session beer.

On tap at Busboys and Poets. Orange color, off white head. Aroma of fruit and yeast. Decent malt, on the sweetish side with citrus and fruit notes. Mild bitter edge to the finish. OK.

The color is very pale orange with a off white. The smell is fruity and a bit sweet with a hint of peach and hops. The taste is malty but also hoppy. Is sweet and has a slight appricot taste. Is well balanced and not heavy. This is a great session beer. Is pretty tasty for a that is a little on the lighter side of ABV.
