Commercial Description:
A Beer Cloaked in Secrecy An ale whose mysterious and unusual palate will swirl across your tongue and ask more questions than it answers. A beer brewed clandestinely and given a name whose meaning is never revealed. Why #9? Why, indeed. A sort of dry, crisp, fruity, refreshing, not-quite pale ale. #9 is really impossible to describe because there’s never been anything else quite like it. Fermented with our 150 year old strain of top-fermenting English yeast.

NOSE: Apricot , pear and grapefruit POURS: Lots of carbonation nice golden color. A 2" head with lots of lacing. TASTE: Wheaty with a nice apricot and pear flavor with little or no hops FINISH: Sweet not much there. A realy nice beer if a fruit ale is your thing. Very light and drinkable.

On tap at Palmer’s, LaGrange Illinois.. I had no idea regarding the style, just ordered something I had not had before. If I had known it was a fruit beer I might have noticed the fruit. As it was I found it to be a rather light, sweet, well balanced, but somewhat nondescript brew.

12 oz bottle. Pours a clear, gold color with a lot of carbonation. Yeasty wheat nose with a hints of grapefruit and orange. Grapefruit, orange, apricot and other fruits dominate a fizzy mouthful. Sweet finish with not much aftertaste. Although this beer is ok, I don’t understand the adulation it receives from many beer drinkers. I also don’t really consider it a "not quite pale ale."

Very light beer with taste of pear, apricot, and faint hops. Nicely carbonated. Definitely a unique brew and totally drinkable, just nothing special in my mind.

Chocolatey, malty, tinged with a dull pear finish. I didn’t know it was a fruit beer when I bought it or took the first sip, so it was a little shocking. Overall it’s pretty good now knowing what it was attempting.

The Magic Hat flagship brew, as far as I’m concerned. A complex taste that truly escapes description. You could savor this beer or session it. I recommend the latter. Buy a case and get after it. Cheers.
