A Beer Cloaked in Secrecy An ale whose mysterious and unusual palate will swirl across your tongue and ask more questions than it answers. A beer brewed clandestinely and given a name whose meaning is never revealed. Why #9? Why, indeed. A sort of dry, crisp, fruity, refreshing, not-quite pale ale. #9 is really impossible to describe because thereís never been anything else quite like it. Fermented with our 150 year old strain of top-fermenting English yeast.

On tap - Pours a light golden color with a nice creamy head. Aroma is clearly fruity, apricot with a slight yeasty smell. Taste is very light with a hint of sweetness. A very drinkable beer but reminds me of a light beer (a little watered down). Could use a boost of flavor. Overall not bad but would prefer a little stronger tasting version.

Very sweet and fruity. This beer has a nice floral aroma and a nice clean after taste. It is light in color and does not look like it will have nearly as much flavor or smell as it does. This is an enjoyable and refreshing beer.

The #9 is Lisaís favorite beer and, we have to ask as Red Sox fans, is #9 a tribute to Ted Williams? Or is it just another in the numerical naming conventions that Magic Hat likes to use? This will require further investigation. For now, the #9 pours a light amber color with a hazy body. White fizzy head, leaving virtually no lacing behind. Aroma is of light flowery hops and, according to MB, baby food bananas. There is also, of course, the aroma of apricots, as this beer is brewed with the essence of apricots. This provides this beer with a very unique flavor, and makes it one of the very few beers that stands apart from the crowd on taste alone. Initial taste is moderately sweet, with both a light sweet and light bitter finish. Light on the mouth with soft carbonation, leaving a watery feel in its wake.

Golden coloured beer with a thick fluffy tan head. Aroma is sweet and apricoty. Like apricot jam. Sweet fruity, low hop aroma, pale malt. The flavour is very similar, apricots, pale malt and an off-putting tinnny metallic flavour. The apricot flavour is pronounced and the beer is neither sweet nor cloying, but it just doesnít do it for me.

Hazy gold with a tolerable head and too many bubbles. The aroma is straight up fruit flavored candy, maybe tropical skittles or something. Apricot, raisins, maybe pear. This is a bit thin in the mouth, with a bit more CO2 than need be. The flavor isnít unpleasant, but is a one trick pony: apricot and significant amounts of it. While this is clearly a session beer, itís just too watery, lacking flavor. Moderately sweet (but not malty), a bit of a hop finish on the back of the tongue, but in a moment itís back to apricot and that fruity sort of bitterness lingers in the mouth thereafter. Not bad for a fruit beer. Bigger malt and more hops could make this a decent beer... or maybe then it would be DFHís Aprihop?

Yellow/orange with a lot of carbonation and a small white head. Aroma is malty with apricot and pear. Flavour is also very sweet, and pretty much the same fruitiness that was in the aroma. Fruit flavour is not overwhelming, which is nice, but its not very complex either. Highly drinkable in a refreshing way, but not a very interesting beer.

Pours a white, three finger-head that goes slowly to a ring leaving some lace. Nearly clear amber color. Very light carbonation and light-medium bodied. Smells like hay. Starts with a malty, fruity, hoppy flavor. "Not Quite Pale Ale" is a good name - the hops are not intense like in many pale ales. 12oz bottle from 12-pack $11.99 Market Basket Concord, NH.

Slightly hazy golden amber w/ a generous pour of off-white foam. Sweet, fruity, somewhat candy-ish aroma. Light, juicy feel. Flavour is sweet & fruity over a bready, toffee-ish foundation. Clean bitterness in the finish.

This is a very nice and unique beer. Very refreshing in my opinion, and a great summer beer. Okay, hereís the weird thing....drink it with dry Cheerios (not combined). Iím not one for pairing beer with food, and this is off-the-charts odd, but they really work well together. If you donít like it, donít sue me, lol.
