Commercial Description:
A Beer Cloaked in Secrecy An ale whose mysterious and unusual palate will swirl across your tongue and ask more questions than it answers. A beer brewed clandestinely and given a name whose meaning is never revealed. Why #9? Why, indeed. A sort of dry, crisp, fruity, refreshing, not-quite pale ale. #9 is really impossible to describe because there’s never been anything else quite like it. Fermented with our 150 year old strain of top-fermenting English yeast.

Bottled. Poured translucent amber with a thin off-white head. Redolent of apricot and a soft sweet malt. Flavor was dominated by apricot, caramel maltiness, a carbonited bite finished by a slightly unbalanced bitter hopiness. A little too carbonated, it destroyed any segway between the malt and hops, leaving the hops alone and out of place.

12 oz bottle: Pours a golden yellow with a very slight white head. Some lacing. A very nice aroma with strong notes of apricot and maybe a little wheat/yeast or citrus. Tastes of wheat, apricot, another fruit I can’t put my finger on (pear), and hints of honey. I’m somewhat surprised by the level of carbonation and fruitiness here, but overall an alright beer.

On tap. Pours a clear golden hue with a foam, off-white with some lace. Aroma is fruit (centering on apricot), wheat, honey and light hops. Taste is very wheaty, with honey glazed cereal, apricot and nectarine. Watery mouthfeel and forced carbonation.

I’m not sure why it seems so hip to hate this beer. It pours a nice apricot color, smells like dried apricots and the flavor is a great balance of apricot and subtle yeast. The mouthfeel is refreshing and the finish is quick and dry. Really, it’s a pretty nice beer.

Possibly the worst beer I’ve ever tasted. I choked the whole bottle down though as I do not waste beer.

Soapy and bitter. Thin body & flavor. Sorta refreshing but an odd aftertaste that I can’t put my finger on. Completely averge. One and done.
