Commercial Description:
A Beer Cloaked in Secrecy An ale whose mysterious and unusual palate will swirl across your tongue and ask more questions than it answers. A beer brewed clandestinely and given a name whose meaning is never revealed. Why #9? Why, indeed. A sort of dry, crisp, fruity, refreshing, not-quite pale ale. #9 is really impossible to describe because there’s never been anything else quite like it. Fermented with our 150 year old strain of top-fermenting English yeast.

Bottle. Not quite pal ale is right. Not nearly as hoppy as some American Pales and a little more fruity. Not bad overall however.

Weird beer. I didnt pour into a glass, but it smelled ok, sugary, carmel malt. Tastes very unusual. Candy sweet, tart, but a decent finish. Easy to drink, but weird. Its like sweet tart candy.

On tap at the Tower Theatre - Upper Darby, PA. I paid $7.50 for a 12oz of this beer at a David Byrne show. What I got was a rather metallic, juicy mess. Aroma piquantly called out almond liqueur, while the body yielded a coppery haze and some white head. Flavor was disagreeable. A biting, lightly sour rough malt and light peach schnapps glow. Particular. And not really drinkable. Acidic, in a bad way. Finished with light creaminess and a total lack of balance.

(Bottle) Pours a darker amber color with some foamy white head. Light fruity aroma, with caramel malts and maybe some spice in there as well. Taste of biscuity malts, apricot and pear, with a noticeable citrus kick and light hopping in the finish. Average mouthfeel and carbonation. It’s an all right beer.

Bottle. Pours brass color with soapy white head. The aroma has an odd graininess that dissipates after a few seconds, then apricot, citrus, and lots of peach (kinda reminds me of Snapple peach tea). The flavor is fruity (again, peach and apricot) with a mild hoppiness. There’s a sticky taffy note in the middle that catches me off guard. It melds into a grainy, slightly earthy finish and dusty aftertaste.

I agree with greenrooster. this is an odd beer. I get more citrus than apricot but the apricot is there. Had an off soapiness to it that kinda killed it for me.

Pour is an orange with a small white head. Aroma has a nasty burning to it with some soapy malts. Flavor is not much better. Some dirty malts and not much else. I dare anyone to tell me what ’’fruit’’ this has in it b/c damn if i can get any. Maybe a bad bottle but this is nothing better than a watered down pale ale.

Bottle at Jerry’s. Straw gold with good, foamy white head / Funky, herbaceous nose / Light to medium body, creamy and fat, malty with some residual sweetness, and with good finish / Flavors of honey, orange, and lemon, with herbal notes of dried sage / Quirky but successful.
