Commercial Description:
A Beer Cloaked in Secrecy An ale whose mysterious and unusual palate will swirl across your tongue and ask more questions than it answers. A beer brewed clandestinely and given a name whose meaning is never revealed. Why #9? Why, indeed. A sort of dry, crisp, fruity, refreshing, not-quite pale ale. #9 is really impossible to describe because there’s never been anything else quite like it. Fermented with our 150 year old strain of top-fermenting English yeast.

Bottle. Slight caramel aroma. Really didn’t detect much fruit, more like some roasted caramel note, and just a tad of spice, like cinnamon. A little hops at the finish. Has some subtle complexity, interesting brew.

Tap. gold color, white head. Nice fruity aroma, but the apricot flavor is a bit too strong for my liking. I’ll save that sort of intensity for fruit tarts and jams. Apricot aftertaste makes me yearn for a shot of Jameson afterwards, which may not be a bad thing depending on the setting. Give this to a date who ’doesn’t want to drink’ heavy beers.

Pours a slightly cloudy medium gold. Thin head. Slightly fruity aroma. Dry and a bit fizzy on the tongue. A pretty decent beer which I may have enjoyed more with an orange slice.

Nice sweet aroma to it, the body is amber in color with a small head to it, taste of fruit, nothing overpowering, very faint and several of them, didn’t quite get an apricot taste but definitely in that family, smooth malty taste to it, the body appears to be a mix between your european ale and american style, pleasantly surprised with this one.

A fruit beer, yes indeed. From the aroma, to taste, to finish; each with their own sweet companion. Nice bit of malt with the somewhat dissatisfying finish.

Best choice when only faced with larger commercial fizzy brews. Limited head, good carbonation. While not too familiar with MH’s other beer, I would expect this beer would be pretty good without the apricot essence. Good maltiness underneath the fruitness

Bottle from World Market, Raleigh, NC. This beer smelled nice with a subtle hint of pine and grass but the flavour was much more fruity than I expected. Then I read the label and noticed that it was brewed with essence of apricot...made more sense to me then. Actually, the addition of apricot to a Pale Ale style worked a lot more here than in DFH’s Aprihop beer in my opinion. Although the soapy element on the palate and in the finish turned me off.

This was a very interesting beer. Pours a hazy amber with a decent white head. Lots of apricot and some spice on the nose. I found the fruit character of this beer to be just right. The apricot balances really well with the nice malty backbone. Just a touch of hops on the finish. Solid brew, definitely worth trying.
