ReademNwheat (174), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 28, 2007 From a bottle. Pours a light amber with small white head. Faint aroma of citrus and not much else. taste is of small amount of citrus and a sort of bread-like taste, possibly the yeast used. Overall an easy drinking beer. Better than most, far from the best. oteyj (716), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA Dec 27, 2007 Ahhh, the tried and true magic hat number 9. Aroma if fruity and floral with some citrus hops in there as well. Flavour is very unique- many dimensions of fruit with nice hop integration as well. Yummy... BeerBelcher (930), Columbus, Ohio, USA Dec 26, 2007 I picked this up at Brew&Brew in North Ridgeville, OH while visiting family and looking for things I couldn’t get at home. And in this particular case, I can’t say I’m upset that this beer is not available in my town...I wouldn’t buy it if it was.
Appearance is a dark gold color, maybe like you’d expect from a really full-bodied lager. Head was thin and not persistent. Aroma was lightly hoppy, a bit fruity, but cereal is really what dominates here. Flavor is a weird graininess followed by some off fruity esters. I’m not a fan. Careful examination of the label reveals that this is a "flavored IPA." Additional examination yields that this beer has apricot flavor, which I did not detect. Mouthfeel is a bit thin and unpleasant.
I would not recommend this beer. The enjoy-by date stamped into my label was Mar 2008 (a good 3 months past when I drank it)...I am grateful that Magic Hat provided me with this date. DrHomolka (726), Columbus, Ohio, USA Dec 26, 2007 12oz bottle. Pours a translucent filtered orange color with a soapy white head. Aroma is cereal, sugary peaches, something else recognizable. Crispix. Taste is the exact same as the smell. Not very good. boFNjackson (1233), Portland, Oregon, USA Dec 26, 2007 I may be a little biased as I rate this beer. #9 was the story of my life in college in New Hampshire, drank this stuff nearly every day. Now that I’m older and wiser it’s nice to go back and enjoy it for what it’s worth. Overall, this isn’t a spectacular brew, but has a unique apricot dominance with still enough hop consistency to bring it some dimension. The bottle poured a candy amber with a foamy head. Floral apricots on the nose. Apricots up front with the flavor and even through to the finish, and besides the hops, it has bit of grains and bread-like notes. I wish you could get Magic Hat out in Oregon. Oh Well. pintsize (1042), Austin, Texas, USA Dec 26, 2007 Updated: Feb 14, 200812-5-07 bottle shared with lb4lb thanks to davehoward. Bubbly clear amber with good lacing. Malty apricot hops smell. Strange, somewhat off-putting taste. Lemony tart finish and aftertaste. Thin and watery overall - but not horrible - very drinkable and light. franksnbeans (265), Columbus, Maryland, USA Dec 24, 2007 Pours a clear stawlike amber with little head or lacing. Smells of ripe fruit and berries. Average and nothing spectacular in the fruity flavor. Light in the mouth and finishes a little dry. Ordered this out of curiousity, now that I know I wont be ordering it again hughie (3018), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England Dec 23, 2007 Bottle from Whole Foods Market, New York. Beautiful bright amber. I began by identifying the aroma as peach, however after a bit I decided it was actually tea. Maybe a fruit tea. A little honey in the taste and a lot of sour, citric fruit, again with a tea-like dryness. Unusual and beguiling brew.
