Commercial Description:
A Beer Cloaked in Secrecy An ale whose mysterious and unusual palate will swirl across your tongue and ask more questions than it answers. A beer brewed clandestinely and given a name whose meaning is never revealed. Why #9? Why, indeed. A sort of dry, crisp, fruity, refreshing, not-quite pale ale. #9 is really impossible to describe because there’s never been anything else quite like it. Fermented with our 150 year old strain of top-fermenting English yeast.

On Tap. Pours clean deep gold. Small head that dissipates rather quickly. Aroma is lightly apricot, heavier on the hop, and a mix of spices. The flavor is much the same, with the apricot and hops to start finishing with a bit of a spices. The feeling is light, but the spices and apricot give it a mischevious edge. The finish is a subtle version of the same tastes and aromas, with a slight lingering, tending towards the dry side.

Draft. Relatively original in flavor profile, this pours a light orange clear body with loads of carbonation leaping up the glass. Fairly refreshing, thank god the apricot is hardly present. Some light hops, get a pitcher of this when there is nothing else.

On tap at an outdoor wedding reception in Masachusetts. My other choices were two Anheiser Busch products and Bass Ale. The Magjic Hat poured amber in color with a medium head. Very pleasant taste, not too fruity , nice and smooth with an easy finish. It didn’t knock me on my can like BBC Steel Rail Ale does. There must have been some other Magic Hat #9 fans there because they had to deliver a 2nd keg later in the day.

Thin and golden with fruit flavors (apricots) and a short finish. Enough hops to keep it from cloying.

Amber with a thin off white head. Lightly hoppy with crystal malts, slight fruitiness. Taste is a little hoppiness, raw maltiness, almost a wheat character.

Bottle Straw pour with great white microbubble head. Very sweet fruity aroma. Flavor is fruity but has some astringency I don’t remember tasting on draught. Better on tap.
