Apricot flavouring
A Beer Cloaked in Secrecy An ale whose mysterious and unusual palate will swirl across your tongue and ask more questions than it answers. A beer brewed clandestinely and given a name whose meaning is never revealed. Why #9? Why, indeed. A sort of dry, crisp, fruity, refreshing, not-quite pale ale. #9 is really impossible to describe because there’s never been anything else quite like it. Fermented with our 150 year old strain of top-fermenting English yeast.

Color is a ver nice shade of gold. The smell is fruitty, apricot and perhaps some lemon. The taste likewise leans the way of fruit "apricot". Light body, very easy drinking. Very little hop presence. This is a very easy drinking beer that I intend to enjoy more of this summer as I relax on my deck.

35 cl bottle i took over from a bottleshop in Manhattan, NY, 9 months ago. Light orange color, slightly hazed, big but reciding white head, no lacing, fizzy. Funky smell. Aroma is fruity, flowery. Belgian-like fruity esters with a light sulphuric edge, yeast, white grapes, pear, plum, sugar. Some leaves and earth. Taste sweetish, a bit sour, light to medium body, heavily carbonated, farily dry mediu-short finish. Not quite ordinary indeed.

Found the only worthwhile thing about this beer to be the pour and the appearance. Once it hit the palate everything was downhill. The flavor was nearly nothing except for some saccharine overtones that remained far too long on the palate. Will not be returning to this one.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 6/16/2015. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy golden orange color with a 2 finger dense and rocky off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of apricot, peach, plum, pear, apple, honey, toasted biscuit, herbal, grass, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of apricot, bready malt, fruity yeast, and light earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of apricot, peach, plum, pear, apple, honey, toasted biscuit, herbal, grass, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of apricot, peach, plum, honey, toasted biscuit, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice robustness, complexity, and balance of apricot, bready malt, fruity yeast, and light earthy hop flavor; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, fairly creamy/bready, and slightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 5.1%. Overall this is a very good fruited English pale ale style. All around good robustness, complexity, and balance of apricot, bready malt, fruity yeast, and light earthy hop flavors; and very smooth, clean, and easy to drink. The aromas were stronger on the apricot notes, but still had a good amount in the flavor; and the base English pale ale is very well done for the style. A very enjoyable offering.

Draft (free hotel beer). Pours a lightly hazy golden with a two finger head. Some lacing coats the sides of the glass half way through. Aromas of flowery hops and citrus, some spices. Taste is unpleasant. Something really stale is prominent – is this wet cardboard? Wouldn’t know. Citrus fruit, some spices, far from crisp. Really don’t like the taste.

Robe orangée et légèrement opaque. Pas de mousse arômes de pêche, caramel, biscuit. Pêche et céréales en bouche, tartrique. Final sur le tartre et l’aigreur. Assez courte en bouche. Une pale ale bizarre.

16 Oz can poured. Can’t make out the date on this can, but I don’t think it’s the freshest out there. Copper pour with a high fizz head. Big fruity aroma. Peachy? But not quite the peach flavor I know and love. Carb is high. Fruity grain finish. Hmmm. What kind of beer is this? Weird.

#9 is an apricot fruit ale. And a great one at that! If you have never had a fruit or vegetable flavored beer give this a go. If you like it then you try other flavors. #9 also has decent mouth feel and body and is somewhat bready or as some would say: funky.. You gotta admire Magic Hat for saying this is their flagship beer since it is a bit adventurous, but it does work rather well.

Pours a clear orange beer with a standard head. Frutal aromas are perceived and when is tasted that impression is more clear, cranberry, lychee and apricot flavors come into as well as the malt flavors, but with a bad mix with the hop flavors. To be fair is something uncommon but too strange to be paired easily with food.

Pours a clear yellow, minimal head. Fruity aroma with a hint of spice. Texture is thin and watery. This will not set the standard for pale ales. Totally forgettable.
