Apricot flavouring
A Beer Cloaked in Secrecy An ale whose mysterious and unusual palate will swirl across your tongue and ask more questions than it answers. A beer brewed clandestinely and given a name whose meaning is never revealed. Why #9? Why, indeed. A sort of dry, crisp, fruity, refreshing, not-quite pale ale. #9 is really impossible to describe because there’s never been anything else quite like it. Fermented with our 150 year old strain of top-fermenting English yeast.

Deep blond color. A poor Ale, with soft corners and some baking yeast character, maybe a light fruit touch too.

2006-09-06, bottle, 6-3-6-3-12=30
Amber color; big head. Some malt flavor with a gentle fruitness; the aroma as well shows some redberry touch. Quite bitter at the end. Drinkable.

UPDATED: APR 13, 2010 The Magic Hat flagship brew, as far as I’m concerned. A pseudo-complex taste that truly escapes description. Dry, sweet apricot comes close. You could savor this beer or session it. I recommend the latter. Buy a case and get after it. Cheers.

Bottle. It’s a clear, golden beer with a small, dense, off-white head. The aroma is bery berryish and sugary fruity, with some candy. The flavor is pretty much the same, with a pleasant bitterness and lemon notes. Medium body, quite dry. Fruity and berryish finish with a nice bitterness and some lemon peel. It’s a decent beer ondeed, but also rather boring. 121110

Bottled. Slighlty hazy orange, small white head. Fruity nose (apricot, mango). Fruity, sweet ale. Not very complex, good for session. Some hops in the aftertaste.

A: #9 is a cloudy light amber color with a fluffy white head that doesn’t leave much, if any, lacing in the glass. S: The smell is incredibly sweet, and not necessarily in a good way. A lot of artificial fruit smell, mostly apricot. T: The taste is all fake, sugary, candy-sweet apricot. There are probably some other flavors in there, but the aforementioned "quality" is just overbearing. M: The mouthfeel is surprisingly decent. The body is medium and there is moderate carbonation. D: This is one of the least drinkable beers I’ve ever had. It’s just so sickeningly sweet that I tried mixing a bit of Stone IPA in it to make it a bit more palatable. I finally just gave up and drank the IPA instead.
