Apricot flavouring
A Beer Cloaked in Secrecy An ale whose mysterious and unusual palate will swirl across your tongue and ask more questions than it answers. A beer brewed clandestinely and given a name whose meaning is never revealed. Why #9? Why, indeed. A sort of dry, crisp, fruity, refreshing, not-quite pale ale. #9 is really impossible to describe because there’s never been anything else quite like it. Fermented with our 150 year old strain of top-fermenting English yeast.

Light golden beer. Not a very distinct aroma or flavor, but there’s enough there to make it a decent beer.

Transfer from BA review on 1-5-13- Served on tap in a pint glass Appearance – Served an orange amber colored brew with a small white head. The head faded rather fast to leave a tiny amount of lacing on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma is sweet and consists of fruit, candied sugar and caramel. The fruits are of the lighter variety with aromas of pear, peach and apricot present. Taste – The taste begins with the lighter fruits that were detected in the nose. Peach and apricot are the most pronounced and are mixed with a subtle bready flavor. As the taste advances some caramel and candied fruit flavors with a more grainy like flavor come to the tongue. It the very end, a light floral hop taste joins the rest leaving a mostly light colored fruit flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer was on the lighter side in terms of its thickness with a carbonation level that was rather average. The two when combined with the fruit and sweet flavors make for a nice very easy drinker. Overall – Overall a quite tasty and easy drinking brew. It’s fruity and sweet, but not really cloying. A nice session style brew.

UPDATED: AUG 16, 2014 Had in town. $4.50 the bottle hiding in a barely-visible fridge under the cash register. It was a rusty golden beer; sustained a thin, white-ringed head barely a fingernail in length, for over 10 minutes of sitting. Tastes and smells of LME, lime-flavored seltzer, burnt plastic, lemon zest, stale garlic, melon rind, and apricot fruit leather (it’s brief, but it’s there). As Adam said, definitely experienced some underlying peppery flavor resmembling mild spice and earth. Meh. Instantly forgotten. Not bad, just not worth remembering. Everything comes all at once in this staggeringly feeble Magic Hat brew. I didn’t find it very cohesive.

On draft at The Charles Town Casino. Smallish head deep golden color. Nice fruity aromas. Apricot. Peach. Pineapple. Fake cherry. Flavor fell off a bit. Candy cherry lingers and a slightly bitter aftertaste. Would have liked to just sit and smell it.

Dark orange / brown. Nose is spicy, herbal and fruity. Taste is peppery with a bit of apricot and pear-like taste. dry finish but a bit too sweet.

Poured from a bottle bought in Chicago. Pours a slightly hazy, light gold with a hue of orange. Aroma is of malty sweetness and fruit. Very low hop character and I get hints of plum and apple. Flavor is slightly bitter right up front that quickly fades into moderate malty sweetness that lasts for a majority of the taste. Fruitiness is apparent with hints of apricot and citrus. I get the impression of stale hops and very little bitterness. The mouthfeel is pretty light and sticky. The back end of the taste is a lingering bitterness and metallic flavor. Overall, not a bad beer. This would be an OK beer for a day

A refreshing beer for a hot summer day. Slight fruity aroma. Taste is a little too sweet for me, but a nice easy thirst quencher.

De geur is heel goed, een echt abrikozenbier maar de smaak daarentegen is een serieuze tegenvaller.
