Rib Eye (138), USA Nov 18, 2005 Updated: Sep 12, 2006Wow. I never would have called this "mystery beer" from Magic Hat’s holiday pack a Scottish Ale. It tastes closer to me to a dark lager like Negra Modelo or Blackened Voodoo or a lighter porter like Turbo Dog, though more complex than any of those. Whatever. It’s delicious; dark and roasty with a relatively light body (which I like - stomach surgery has eliminated my ability to burp, so I get bloated very easily) balancing very rich flavors. Well balanced. Truly the best thing yet from Magic Hat. Ambrose (141), East Aurora, New York, USA Apr 4, 2007 This was very good. Wanted to name it. I think it was broken oak or log tosser. But they didnt go for it. oh well. Good batch. crzybob77 (519), Richmond, Virginia, USA Oct 22, 2005 Rather dark brown. Until i saw this was a scottish ale, i just figured it for a brown ale. Hasa nutty sweet malt flavor with a nice richness. Quite good actually. Aroma is mainly nutty. cfranz (261), Acton, Massachusetts, USA Dec 19, 2005 I just got home from a late night at work and this beer was in my fridge. Part of the winter pack. Tasted great after dealing with Christmas shoppers all evening. Pours brown/dark amber. Not as sweet as other scotch ales, lighter-bodied too. A little citric to the taste. wrbriggs (5), Shelburne, Vermont, USA does not count Nov 9, 2005 On tap in brewery; brought home a growler. Not sure if it’s just me, but was much better on tap than in the bottle. Slightly sweet, toasty malt flavor dominates, with almost no sign of hops on the finish. It seems like the hops in this case are just taking the edge off the sweetness, without giving a lot of their own flavor to the beer.
Update - Not listed here yet, but at the brewery I was told that this beer is 7% ABV. Hopefully this will be updated soon!
