Lightly hazed amber ale with a thin lacing white head. A pungeant hops in aroma, with pot like qualities. A light caramel malt in mouth, with nice funkey hops action, light grapefruit, and pinhous notes. Very nice body, oily mouthfeel. Good, pleasing and surprising. August 26,2006 at McGregor’s, Henrietta, NY.

12oz bottle provided by weeare138. Poured a deeper and clear orange color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of oranges, grapefruit, citrus, and a general wet hop leafiness to it (does that make sense?). Tastes of citrus, grass, oranges, and caramel. Has a little bitter bite to it.

DocLock (6826) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 22, 2006
Bottle from Super Saver. Pours dark coppery/amber with aroma of some caramel malt, slight hopcitrus, and some toffee notes. Tastes as it smells, with more caramel malt notes backed up by some finishing tart hopcitrus.

Cletus (6187) - Connecticut, USA - MAY 1, 2006
An amber this is and a boring one at that. Pours amber red with a thin filmy tan head. Smells of roses, sugar and some pepper. Tastes slightly tarte and sour. Finishes with the whimper it started out with. Are the days of big beer brewing a thing of the past for these guys? I hope not.

Ernest (5647) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JUN 18, 2006
Blind rating, bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, off-white, mostly lasting. Body is dark amber. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), moderately hoppy (resin), lightly yeasty (dough). Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Rather dull, thin, and watery.

Poured an amber color with a small, off white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrus fruits, orange peel, grapefruit, floral hops, caramel malts, light pine and some heather tips. Taste of citrus fruits, some toffee, lemongrass, and light nuts. Finished with medium bitterness.

(Rating #659)

Small draught sample at the brewery in the company of ClarkVV. Poured a fairly dense, dark amber with a touch of head....nose of pleasant, pungent green-wet hops, really leafy and fresh (well it should be, being brand new and all) with a touch of dry oakiness as well....the body is lightly sweet and yeasty, but dominated by a fairly sharp woody hoppiness with hints of citrus and caramel. Nothing really original or anything, but fairly pleasant and something I will definitely retry in full pint form when next I see it on tap around town.

Pours a hazy brownish golden amber with an average foamy off white head that left some lacing and sustained fairly nicely. The aroma...man did that Weyerbacher Double Simcoe make me fall in love with this hop. Was excited to find out Magic Hat used all Simcoe in this beer. The aroma is right up my alley upfront orange and other citrus, nice floral notes and some pine hidden in there. The hop in the aroma is probably the most I have noticed in a Magic Hat beer. Caramel malt hidden in there but aroma is dominated by the Simcoe. Flavor is also mostly Simcoe dominated but I would almost prefer they use a bit more of it. Flavor doesn’t quite hold up to the aroma but I did enjoy it. More pine with some citrus and malt to balance.. A bit thin and almost soapy, but not necessarily in a bad way. Still decent, just wanted a little more from the mouthfeel.
